No, this is not a crazy photoshopped image.
Nintendo has announced that it will release a limited edition "Mew"-colored version of its DS handheld game system in commemoration of a new Pokemon film that will be playing in Japanese theaters this summer. --Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/31/news_6126709.html)
I can understand some new colors....but pink?!

It's the color of a Pokemon...what do you expect? And it really looks a bit more lavender than pink. And what's wrong with pink? =P

Ummm.... <_<
...
...
...
its a girly color :P
And it draws WAY too much attention for the wrong reasons. I can understand ANY other colors (excluding purples, violets, and neon colors) but c'mon. Pink?
no offense to anyone who are guys and like the color pink, but I still think its a girly color =P

I agree with Modred, more of a lavender. And really, they have done a system in purple before, but I guess the Atomic Purple of the N64 was a little more manly :P
Mew though... I though Pokemon was dead already?

OMG POKÉNECRO!!!!!!!!!1111
Well, to be honest, it doesn't look half-bad, aesthetically speaking... it sorta looks like something I might buy for my cousin >_>

They are being smart. They are trying to appeal to girls more, which a very smart move. Just think of all the girls that would buy a DS if it came in a color they liked more.

Maybe.
Mew though... I though Pokemon was dead already?
Let's go through the list:
Red
Blue
Yellow
Silver
Gold
Crystal
Leaf Green
Fire Red
Ruby
Sapphire
Emerald
And those are just the gameboy games...there's a new one every year or two. I remember the good ol' days when there were only 151 Pokemon...now there's something like 400. Way too many to remember.

It's not dead; it's still one of Nintendo's biggest cash cows in the US. You know that list of games I posted a little while back? Nearly half of them have come out in either 2004 or the first half of 2005. Add Gamecube games, a cartoon that is still running, stuffed animals, trading cards, and a whole gamut of other merchandise, I'm afraid Pokemon is quite alive and well in the United States.
Plus, I like the color of the new DS.

They are already doing that with Nintendogs which has outsold the PSP in Japan O_o

It's based on this colour:

Eh, it's alright, nice and pleasing on the eyes. Person, I like my silver one better. *huggles*
I really doubt they are trying to appeal to girls. It's more of just another pokemon thing for kids. Modred, I'm with you. I played the first one when it was only 151, and then I played the second version. Havn't done anything from there, it died out for me.

You realize that each show is a basic repeat.
The idiot, Ash, goes off somewhere. He helps people, acts stupid, does things. Then the even STUPIDER team rocket comes along, rips something off, and then they get beat. Rinse and repeat. I stopped watching 'bout a year ago. Last week, I watched a show...and I was amazed how every day a couple of years ago, I watched those shows.

This has no relation to the my statement that Pokemon is still popular. If people will watch it, that is what will be made. As a note, almost any television show can be fit into a generic model such as what you posted.
And I think I like the blue DS better. Although this lavender is nice.

I know, but if they only did one thing you think girls would buy it? Some might, and others wouldn't. They are all around trying to appeal to the other half of the world that no other company does.

Dont be ashamed of the things you do as children and dont try and forget about them, you will never sit down and enjoy a childish thing like that almost ever agian, whats worse as you get older you will even loose site of the understanding you had of all things childish. It will all be a dim 20 year old memory soon enough. The fact is DP one day you may even begin to feel that way about Broodwar or Diablo, I never have, but all my friends think Im some sort of fruit loop, but thats another story anyway.
To be fair the games rarely follow the show at all, and Pokemon as a game can still be quite fun.

If it were hot pink, I wouldn't mind, but Mew pink looks like you spilled...strawberry milk on a silver DS.
Not something that I would mind too much, but not something I would want to be seen in public with.

I liked the Pokemon games, and would still play them if people would stop stealing my f-ing games. It's a fun game, and even after you've beat the "Elite Four" or w/e, you can still go around doing small things and training your Pokemon! I used to be a hardcore fan too, but now, the games have lost their appeal.

Agreed, I STILL think that the games are okay... But I havn't played them in a long time ;).
Once they make a Purple one, I'll buy one. Purple is awesome :). That's all that I've gotten since gameboy color, I have a GBC, GBA, and soon a GBA SP, maybe.
