Is it true that the only way to put songs on your Ipod is through Itunes? Is there like any other way to put songs on the Ipod without Itunes?

It's true. And they'll keep doing that, because people will keep buying them for the style.

As far as I know, yes. Why can't you just use iTunes? I'm fairly sure you can link it to your existing library file, and when you plug your iPod in it should automatically open iTunes, so you just sync and quit it.

Acctualy, no its not quite like that.

You can download songs in other ways and them save them into files. When you want to put that song onto your Ipod, you can just put the song into your Itunes library and it will convert it to the correct file type. Then you load it onto your Ipod through Itunes, you don't need to buy the song.

It's not true. You can always use EphPod (http://www.ephpod.com/).

because people will keep buying them for the style. *hurls* Yeah right.

On another note, I dunno; Ipods just seem rediculously, expensive. The mechanism for headphones to listen into a system costs less than 20$ in total. The memory to carry songs for say, 256 megs is about 60$. The computer workings of a CD player is about 30$ at most. That's about 110$ with all labor abd everything included. Why the f*ck are they sellng Ipods for over 300$? No one in their right mind is going to buy one.

By the way, is it just me, or does everyone of their commercials just a clone of the first one? I swear to god, they could at least use a tiny bit of orignality instead of rehashing the same commercial.

Remember, EVERYTHING on a mobile device must be optomized to use less energy, weigh less, be smaller and to still work and sound great.

The memory to carry songs for say, 256 megs is about 60$.

Regular iPods carry 20gb of data. Have you ever actually held a full sized 20gb PC hard drive? They weigh a ton. The HD in an iPod have to weigh less, use less energy, be smaller etc.

The computer workings of a CD player is about 30$ at most.

I don't know what the hell that has to do with an iPod.

Try adding the lithum-ion battery (which is extremely expensive), the backlit LCD screen, the Click Wheel, and then all the technology to put it all together (not to mention the magnetic screws keeping the thing together).

No one in their right mind is going to buy one.

So I guess the fact that they are the best selling portable device ever has nothing to do with anything?

Apple tends to "accidently" break 3rd party syncing tools when they release new models and updates.

Eh, not when you strike a deal and get one for $45. Yeah, I'm lucky...

Actually my friend went to the local Circuit City, and tried to buy an iPod Mini - guess what it came up at the register? $15! Since by law stores are not allowed to change prices at the register (otherwise the common practice known as the "Bait 'N Switch" would become even more common), they had to give it to him. He was ready to pay 250+ for it, but walked away with a $15 buck iPod. :D

Um...don't you mean 2.5GB? As far as I know, regular iPods come in a 2.5GB and 5GB variety. The Shuffle has what...512MB?

So... why are you asking?...
I was planning to get an Ipod, but since Im on a limited budget I have some questions on how an Ipod is better then a 512 mb flash mp3 player.
Flash Mp3 players Pros dont get damaged when lightly dropped, can easily replace the rechargeable battery with a newly charged one so you can listen to music all day. Are really cheap (less then $50) A really simple way to put music in it by simply dragging and dropping.Cons Low capacity, Crappy ass display,No games!
Ipods Pros High capacity (20 gigs) Can play games, cool clicker, can have back laser engraved when purchased online, cool display, interactivity Cons Expensive ($200 to $400), Hard drive can be easily damaged when dropped. Have to use I tunes to place music in the Ipod. Battery is hard to replace and very expensive.
I know Im missing some more, please tell me what they are.

Hard drive can be easily damaged when dropped.

I disagree with that, I've dropped my Ipod countless times and it hasn't taken any damage at all. Once I installed the protective casing, its actual appearance wasn't effected when it was dropped. (Of course I don't really care how it looks)

I've dropped my iPod too and it works fine (going on two years now). And the battery is now covered under Apple Care by the way.

Regardless of personal experiences, flash memory is much more tolerant of shock than hard drives.

iPod,Ipod,IPOD,ipod,IPod, Im not really a grammer person. Is there an (iPod,Ipod,IPOD,ipod,IPod) modding site? Should I just get an (iPod,Ipod,IPOD,ipod,IPod) mini?

Don't know what your smoking, but the iPod comes in sizes from 5gb to like 40gb (jesus?)

Personally I don't know if i would be willing to shell out that much money just to listen to some songs portably, there are so many other decent MP3 players out there -- and very few force you to change file types/etc... Plus, I find it lame that you have to like keep paying for a song that you already have.

Has anyone used the wireless transmitter for your vehicles? I bought my wife a cheaper 256mb mp3 player and bought a wireless transmitter that doesn't seem to work all that well. It's staticy and well...kinda flat. Anyone had any success with the more expensive iPod versions?

I have the iTrip and I've found that it's not as high quality as I'd expect either. The range is not very good (I usually set it on the dash to prevent static) and the tonal quality is not too high. I've found that I have to leave the iPods equalizer on a pretty flat setting and just turn it up on the stereo system, or it'll top out. If you can find a clear frequency and get the volume and settings right though, it sounds quite alright.

Thanks for the feedback GD, that's essentially the type of results I'm getting. In the Tampa area, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find an unused frequency. And it seems the positioning of the transmitter varies depending on the atmosphere.
