View Full Version : Opinions, please!
Alrighty. It's time for a newspaper article, and I was looking around the forum. Seeing a lot of the same thing, I thought it'd be time for a little bit of opinions. Let's hear them!
I know I've done this before, and I remind you, whatever you post, I can and quite possibly will take from here and place directly into the newspaper. I will do my best not to warp any statements, nor change much, unless absolutely needed (Grammar, etc.). Please be as honest as possible, and say what you mean. If you wish, though, you *may* PM them to me, although my inbox is full again >.<
1. The Master thread's just been updated. Please look through if you haven't. Now answer this: Do you think this really could help a new roleplayer? And then if you're name is within this thread with the RP'ers, do you like what's put down about you? Lastly, do you like how the list of RP's is setup, now seperate from the first post, or would it be better there?
2. How do you learn the most at your roleplays? I know I learn more from trying things totally new for once, and taking advice from others. Watching doesn't really help me, for the most part... It's more experiments, here. What about you? What really gets you learning new things?
3. What form of speech do you use? This is often a controversial thing at other forums (Believe me, I got stuck in a debate once >.<), and I was wondering: Do you use third person or first person, and do you use past or present tense? I've found in the past a majority of people use first person past, but only by a small margin. Is it the same here? If you have no clue what you use, check the master thread for the definitions, then look through your posts.
And then any other comments you'd like to put in. Remember, they can be general, like "I like Roleplaying, and I'm glad I'm doing it here!" to something specific like "I think EnderWiggin leaving the RP forum is a shame" or something. Any other comments are welcome, and will probably be posted, if acceptable. This is due in by midnight tonight, and at latest, noon the next day, so please, answer quickly and intelligently. Thanks!

1. It will help new roleplayers, it helped me when I came. I like What you've written, thumbs up! Nice setup, very good, trust me on this ;)
2. Well I learned how to roleplay with Fall of the Universe and when I started typing in Fiction for sc.org. Advice and critisicm is a good thing, it's better to experiment, but always follow a lead given you by the creator of the RP.
3. Well third person is the most descriptive and is used best in multyplayer RPs, I'd suggest present person if you want your story to be dynamic and 1st person is for thoughts, best used for single RPs or one-character Fan fiction.
Anyway I'm glad I get to RP in such a devoted place, it's wicked and the best I can say is fantastic job.

1. Yes, I think it could help a new person with rules and such. I do like what is written, although I may decide that it needs some updating sometime in the future. I think that having the RP list separate makes things look better, although I think the RP'er list and the RP lis should switch places as people want to see the active RP's before the active RP'er.
2. I just do my own thing, making it quite descriptive. The only real thing I learn by roleplays is how to play each character. Most of the characters I make have completely different personalities, and the challenge of roleplays is to immerse yourself into the character and really play them with feeling.
3. I use third person, and sometimes switch from past to present without realizing it. I've done first person a few times, but don't really like it. I can have more control over the character and their surroundings with third person.

I know I've done this before, and I remind you, whatever you post, I can and quite possibly will take from here and place directly into the newspaper. I will do my best not to warp any statements, nor change much, unless absolutely needed (Grammar, etc.). What newspaper? What did I miss?
1. The Master thread's just been updated. Please look through if you haven't. And where is this masters thread?
Now answer this: Do you think this really could help a new roleplayer? I could give them a few pointers, but RP skill is something that cannot be taught in a just a few short hours. To RP well, it takes a very fine sense of storytelling. You have to know how to tell a good story, then you have to know how to only put in a small piece at a time, then passing the figurative "ball" onto someone else. Then, depending on what they write, you will then have to improvise, and storytell from there. It's a rather difficult skill to pick up for those who are not naturally gifted.
The best thing to tell them, is to read as many stories and watch as many movies as possible, to get a feel for how they tell their stories. There re complications in every story, then there are solutions to many, but not all of them. It is important when seeing other stories, to understand not what, but the how and the why of the story. Once you know that, the rest should be smoother seas.
And then if you're name is within this thread with the RP'ers, do you like what's put down about you? Lastly, do you like how the list of RP's is setup, now seperate from the first post, or would it be better there? Linky? I still need to find that master thread.

90% of the things you learn from roleplays are "don'ts". Besides that, it's just copying off of someone else's style.
3. What form of speech do you use? This is often a controversial thing at other forums (Believe me, I got stuck in a debate once >.<), and I was wondering: Do you use third person or first person, and do you use past or present tense?
I go back and forth. Sometimes i use past, sometimes I use present. However, I never put me as myself in the charicter's shoes. I normally do it from 3rd person.

Comments eh?
Well, first off, I think this forum is kinda dead most of the time. Only like a dozen or less people frequent this forum. The worst thing is, something that I am getting very d*mn tired of, is people who join an RP, make a charicter sheet, then maybe make one or two posts before vanaishing off the face of the earth. I mean WTF?! They don't even give any explaination. They just make their charicter sheet, get you thinking you have alot of people who want to play the RP, then half of em fuggin leave with no damn warning! I mean WTF indeed!

Ah I see. In that case, how would I add an RP to that list? How do I change what is written about me?

1. No, I'd crush all those who try >.< JK, I could, but I don't know if I would be the best. I'd probably just give some pointers and such, let them learn for themselves.
As for what's said about me, I basically like medieval with magic or futuristic RPs, if you would care to add that in there, etc. Otherwise it's good.
2. I learn things by just writing. If you write and RP enough, you'll eventually develop your own style and begin to improve your skill. You'll never stop learning, though, that's an ongoing thing. There are always new and fun things you can try.
3. I seem to use third person omnicient narrator a lot, in past tense. It's usually a good idea to use present tense though, so it's sort of a 50-50 with me because I'm used to past but try to use present in some. Of course that doesn't mean that I don't change it up sometimes and go first person for the hell of it.
