The land has been quiet for years. peoples of all kinds lived in harmony. Even the drow had made peace with the elves and put their past between them. It was utopian Bliss...

HA!! like that ever lasts long. Your fears that something would go wrong were realized today when the daily prophet spoke of a terible problem sweeping the land. It seems we have dragons. That mythical creature that was wiped out hundreds of years ago has returned. But how? and why? these are the questions that need answered.

You are standing at the street corner looking at a sign that reads

HELP WANTED

Seeking adventurers willing to locate and kill the dragons and put a stop to the madness. You will be payed well, we promise. Come to the Town hall at Noon the 12th day of june to register...

+++++

ok, so heres the deal. its a serious RP. I want to gather ideas on who wants to play, what else i need, etc. Standard races with their usual quirks. I'm going to add details through the prophet newspaper to "stir" things up as need be for the story. yes the world is going to regress into its little factions and its your job to find out how the dragons came back. who if anybody caused it, and why?

I want to gather your posts here, with thoughts. i want this to have the option of players out for their own political motivations and maybe once you all meet the head Dragon, not all of you will make it out alive. and i might even have party members placed as spies by the bad guy force. ( sue me.) if the name of the paper needs changing i can do that too i guess, but i couldn't think of a better name....

work with me here people.

then ill put up a real thread with the start, using this to post the character sheet once we have it finalized.

Hmmmm……… might need more to the backround of this, maybe list the factions, races, classes if there are classes that is. If the factions are different, do they fight eachother? Do they just disagree over tea? Do the different factions reley on different things? Example: Faction X uses mainly Ice magic because they hail from the northern mountains of Canada (sue me too). Or: Faction Y are all warriors that think magic is for weeklings and scholars, they prefer to bash things senceless with large clubs. I don't mean to bash your RP if that's how it looks, because I'm guessing this is to gather ideas? I want to gather ideas on who wants to play I'm guessing you also want general RP ideas? If I'm wrong smite me down now and I will shut up.

I especially like this part. HA!! like that ever lasts long. rofl!

Ok then. First off, you need to establish:

What time-zone this is in. Midevil fantasy, Semi-modern fantasy, etc.
What technologies are availible.
What creatures and different races exist.
Does magic exist?
What causes the heros to spring into action and start there adventure? (I am guessing that the return of the dragons is dreaded by the people, so it looks like this is covered)
Do you have the the main/basic storyline of events written down, so you can keep the RP on track?
Do you have a few "sidequest events", or detailed events you can unleash?
Or are you asking for suggestions of what to include, and how to shape/form this RP, style-wise? (I am hoping you have the storyline figured out for the most part.)

If you are taking suggestions, think first how it will affect your storyline. If for example, everyone having guns will be able to slaughter a normally toguh enemy, then you have to have some sort of reduction on guns, say, 1700's or before, with a international shortage of gunpowder, making them rare weapons, etc.

For Creature Races, I think adding in races like "Were-beast", "Vampire", "Angelic", "Demonic", "Undead", "Fairy", "Dryad", "Mermaid", "Demi-Bird", "Orc" and "Cybernetic" might make interesting additions, to the normal "Human, dwarf, elf, and possibly dark elf." norms.

I think it would behoove the RP, in the interests of order mostly, to have a selection of skill sets people can have. For example, 30 skills in total; 15 of them can be used by warrior class, 12 can be used by theif, 18 can be used by mages, etc. Just for an example.

Now then, for classes, we can either go with classic, "Knight, Rogue/ranger, Mage, Cleric, Monk" set, or we can be creative. Once again, the classes will depend greatly on the technology setting. Some Additional classes I could suggest, would be:

Technician (uses several devices and contraptions in battle, good with machines)
Bard (uses enchantments, and spells activated by vocal words to attack. It's worth a shot, right? This class is a huge team player.)
Herder (Studies monsters and can emulate their attacks. See "Blue Mage" from final fantasy series, "Gau" from FF 3.6, etc. Class not availible to human race.)
Perhaps you could even break down the "rouge" class into different classes.

Skirmisher (Specializes in speed/agility/dexterity and Strength, moderate defense. Normally uses handheld weapons only, and has access to some of the strongest sheilds and armors. Specializes in parrying attacks, bonus defense against missle attacks, increased stamina & speed, increased sight.)

Assasin (specializes in stealth, dexterity, then strength. Low defense. Has access to nearly all one-hand weapons. Bonus abilities include poisen skill, ability to conceal, climb walls, counter and use some magics, nightvision.)

Archer (as expected, dexterity, eyesight, and strength are key. Medium defense, this class specializes not only in bows, but can specialize in nearly all missle weapons, thrown or launched. Can use bows, from normal one stick with a string bows, to grand matron gold compound bows, capible of launching several arrows with each pull. Special bonuses include, increased defense against missle, greater ability to dodge missle, Spot weakness, flatching and arrowcrafting, and greater skill with ropes.)

I suppose the mage class could be broken down too. Bard and herder could go into it, along with summoner, and magic user: Elemental, Curse crafter, cleric/preist, wizard, necromancer/soulmancer, sorcerer, wizard, etc.)

Then if we wanted, we could divide the warrior into knight, samurai, ?ninja?, Paladin, Halberdier(two hand weapon user), Soldier, Mage-knight, Dark Knight, Paladin, etc.

Anyways, you can see where I am going with all of this. You should be able to get a general feel for the game now. Any questions just PM me.

If undead are going to be fair game and lichdom is allowed hell yes.

Hell yes anyway, I've never played a fantasy-ish RPG before (Go team n00b!)

So, is there a plan then? (Y'know, asking this kinda thing BEFORE I say yes might be a good idea....)

ok, so im gonna work on all this, give me more ideas. EPIC i tell you EPIC!!! I can give you those more ideas. However, I need you to tell me what kind of RP this is going to be so I know how to narrow it down and best help you. Is it Midevil fantasy world, on the verge of a technilogical revolution? Are there a bunch of insane church groups protesting something the heros must accomplish, or the new revolution or something?

Are you asking ideas on what would happen in the storyline? If you are, that would be kindofa letdown. The GM is normally supposed to think this stuff up ahead of time....

Well, I suppose there could be like, entire cities that move around the continents on railraod like tracks, there could be a floating island, where a castle lies that was the great dragon fortress long ago where the dragons were originally destroyed at, the players' charicters could be idiots maybe, (just kidding guys), some enchated weapons used to defeat the dragons could fall into the hands of a dark society, and the players have to fight them or something, Come on LQ! Use that RPer brain of yours, make some sh*t up! RPers everywhere depend on you!

well, i havent done the map thing, besides going back and forth always bugged me. if someone esle wants to jump on the map go ahead when we work this out. as for the background i am working on

we have two differnet cultures, the south is well, the south. majic, fantasy mideval and seemingly the dominant domain. still have to work on the races a bit, the north is the area of lost technology. no one knows how to make it, and those few that no how to repair it are dying off, some plague based on the metals used to make it, basically it is steam powered at best, or maybe a little majic. but no on the guns. society thinks of guns as an act of cowardice and does not allow them. i.e. i aint allowing pc's access to them. nope, no way. but i think it fun to have a machine god cult, ( yup, like 40k, but not near as advanced, but a god none the less. )

classes, with specialties. or sub classes underneath
Rogues.
-ranger
-thief
-spy
-assisins ( although i dont know about this. might be a secret society )
Fighters
-barbarians
-knights
-paladins
-archer
priests
-monk
-normal
-techno
-druid
spell tosers
-specialist
-mage (inner majic)
-wizzard( book majic)

Races

"Good"
Elf-
dwarf-
human-

"evil"
Liche-
drow-
naga-snake peoples

"neutral"
troll-
orc-
halfling

working on other stuff. but i like the idea of liches vying for power, etc. so ill use it. and nagas might be cool. although i did lump some things into categories, their are always balances. (good and bad) yes, allowing good liches, bad paladins. etc., variations on elfs, trolls, etc.

...working on more stuff.

+++ Singo just volunteered for the map detail..lol

Hell, why not.

Green and light grey bits can be mountains, the dragons living in the ones on the top continents.

Unless anyone's got a better idea.

still working out the unique races of the land. and the skills, hey Zero, do you have a list of skills might be usefull. i am drawing a blank right now. have the usuall. i just need ones for thiefs, spies, trackers, priestly ones. and maybe some other tidbits.

Ick... you don't want to give too many classes and too many races, because 1) its hard to come up with unique racial benefits without becoming redundant, and 2) the player may feel overwhelmed. While I do realise you want this to be big, having 20-odd classes and 9 races would only work for something people would actually join. Think of an RP like and MMORPG. Start out with a few choices as to character creation and playing options, and if people get interested, start adding things. And if this takes off, I'd join, so long as I get to make my own race(exclusive to yours truly)and whatnot. If not allowed, then I still might join. Either way, I'm chuck-full of advice I got from GD when I was making The Crusade.

Just say yeah, everyones unique, tell everyone to make it up themselves and PM them to you so you can decide if they are a bit overpowered.

basic plots and side quests are done, like i say i am just fleshing it out, and alot of the races arent going to be allowed to be picked. just general knowledge type stuff. it depends on what the final hashing out looks like. but thanks

Magic, two different kinds:

Elemental Magic: Mana exists in the world all around. In some places, it is stronger than others. When entering any zone, a mage of this skill can gather energies from around, and form magic with it. This causes a drain on the surrounding area. Once an are has been drained of mana, it must regenerate.
Spell Magic: This type of magic is simply tapping into the mana and plane of magic that exists in the world, and speaking chants, thereby bending the reality to perform the spell's wish. This puts the drain on the user's stamina/energy.
D*mn, I gotta go now. If you want a spell list, you will have to wait a few hours for me to get back home. Later.

ZeroCross

Possible spell list:

Fireball 1: A fireball seeks out enemies
Fireball 2: Multiple fireballs seek out enemies
Ember Shower: Showers an area with hot coals and embers
Searing Spear: A concentrated 'shot' or trailing flames sears deep into an enemy, has "peircing" attribute.
Magma Bomb: Launches a ball of magma, which explodes with deadly lava upon impact. All mamgma emits great flames when exposed to air.
Lava River: A torrent of lava flashboils enemies.
Inferno: The temperature of air in target area raises dramatically, frying the enemy, before the sonic shockwave of the air heating up blows away the ashes.
Lavawater: A tidalwave of lava grows quickl from the casters feet, being sent upon targets. Target takes damage from fire elemental, but also water-like weaknesses.
Steam Chute: Chucks a small fireball, blasting steam everywhere, scalding enemies. Takes for both water and fire elemental damage.
Smokescreen 1: A wave of smoke clouds the feild of battle.
Smokescreen 2: A wave of smoke clouds the feild, while burning and searing all caught under it.
Hellfire: One of the most dreaded of all magic attacks. The ground bursts open beneath the target area, unleashing massive fountain of flames, with claws of fire coming out of the hole, Dragging lesser enemies into hell. All enemies still standing suffer massive burns.
Flames of the Wind: An enourmas attack, where a whirlwind, litterally made out of fire, spreads arcoss the zone. Deals both wind and fre elemental damage. Cannot be stopped once set in motion, very dangerous.
Solar Beam: A beam of the most intense thermal energy is formed from the sun, searing into an enemy, into a thin beam quite litterally hotter than hot. If done when the sun is at full light, is phenominally powerful and intense.

Aqualight: Spreads a beam of blue light upon a target. Healing water and wind elementals, damaging fire, earth, and lightining elemenatals.
Aqua-Ball: Summons a huge bubble filled with water, used to smash opponents.
Bubble sheild: A wall of bubbles is summoned up, which can be used to soften enemy blows, slow a decent or a fall, or used to help float.
Ice Dagger 1: An eliptical shard of ice forms, thrusting into an enemy.
Ice Dagger 2: Same as above, exepct multiple daggers.
Frost Barrier: Freezes the air around an object into ice. Can create barriers, and other certain objects.
Deluge: Torrent of icy water crashes into a specified zone. Very dangerous if not handled right.
Falling Star: The sky rains enourmas boulders of ice onto a specified zone.
Glacier: A torrent of water drowns the feild, followed by a massive block of ice crashing into the specified zone at high speed. When I say massive, I mean MASSIVE.
Acid Rain: I assume this is self explainitory *evil grin*
Clarity: Purifies and cures a body, removing all illness and heals wounds.

And some other stuff, would be like Lightning dome 1 & 2, Lightning flash, (blinds enemies) Lighitning bomb, meteor shower, something similar to lurker spines, and the basic spells of "mute", "sleep", "blind", "fog", "heal", "reivive", then work the way into other "strategic" spells they normally try to gie you in RPGs, like "crappy instant kill that only works on enemies so weak you can normally kill with a basic attack anyways", "Paralyze", "entrap", "petrify", "attract", "lure", "Trasparent", "Float", "Weight", "Illuminate", "counterspell" and every other nearly useless non-attack spells you see in RPG's that any competant player just skips and goes straight for attack spells to wax the bad guys anyways. (A slight joke, but still...)

well, after some thought this weekend i am gonna go with the skills being something people pickout. majic isn't gonna be started out yet in world, being a side effect of the dragons, so people are gonna learn it as the game progresses.... skills will be picked out by players and we will probably have one primary, and two secondary, thanks for the help Zero, and i am sorry i had ya go through it to change my mind on ya like that. and at first people are only gonna pickout certain races form the list, then if enough people want to play, we can expand. another thing i am working out is that certaqin people are going to be "plants" from the bad guys to throw the mission off, and maybe be plants to check up on the other plants.. etc., cause some player mistrust. interaction could be fun with the who do you trust motif.
