As you all know (or should know), we have a FAQ for Warboards.

Our new senior moderator, Schwitzer, has kindly informed me that the time has come to include a roleplaying section in the official FAQ. For that, I'm turning to the members of the RP community to help us write the FAQ.

How this will work:

I will present you with an outline of what information needs to go in the FAQ. You guys will then help me decide what general topics need to into the FAQ, and help me reorganize the structure of the FAQ.

Outline:

Overview

What is Roleplaying?

Roleplaying
How is a roleplay carried out?
How do I participate?

How is it controlled, and who controls it?
What are the requirements of roleplaying?

Style
What different styles are there or roleplaying?
What are the different writing styles?

GM'ing
What is a GM?
How do I become a GM?
What are the rules of GM'ing?
What are some guidelines of GM'ing?
What makes a good GM?

I'm trying to keep it short and sweet. If you have suggestions of what other topics should be included, post them.

Also, post what topics you think should be covered in each section. Use the following outline, and keep it short. You do not have to write it out in FAQ style, simply what you think should be included. I will be in charge of writing it.

1.1)
2.1)
2.2)
2.3)
2.4)
3.1)
3.2)
4.1)
4.2)
4.3)
4.4)
4.5)

Thanks!

We're all busy reading our Little Red Books, Black.Ice. Remember, position is something the ruling classes made to oppress the workers. Religion is nothing but a ploy created by the ruling classes to oppress the worker. In our perfect Utopia, the worker shall reign supreme and everyone shall be equal.

BI, I said I'd get around to this. Currently, I'm re-working our Master thread. Give me a little while longer to finish that in a bit (Just got home), and I'll then begin on this. It's not too hard to transition, believe me.

What makes a good GM: Quallity parts and good maitnence! Jk.

What really makes a good GM: A good GM needs one thing above all else, an RP. After that a GM needs creativity and a good sence of order, even in the craziest RPs there have to be rules. However GMs that are "hard-asses" offen don't do well because the RPers need room to be creative as well.

How's that BI?

Yeah, that's fine. Thanks Lt.Hawk.

I'm going to keep this open until Next Friday. That's when I have to get it done and give it to Schwitzer.

Just some brief things:

1.1) Roleplaying in a nutshell is writing a book, but doing so with a handful of people all writing the story.
2.1) A roleplay on warboards is carried out in a thread where each person writes what their character does in accordance to the overall plot.
2.2) To participate you just have to sign up in the thread. However make sure you read the GM's (the creator; the Game Master) rules and background in the first post (if he wants you to PM the character sheet then PM him it). Also try not to just start an RP as soon as you join, this is frowned upon as sometimes new members do not fully realize what they are getting themselves into.
2.3) The RP is controlled by a GM -- yes the GM does a lot with RP's -- and he will bring new elements to the RP as well as govern the characters, rules, etc.
2.4) There are no real requirements, just some basic understanding of story telling, and good grammar.
3.1) There is third and first person perspectives. Then of course their are the different types of characters, male, female, and then class differences, ex. thief, magician, knight (for fantasy).
3.2) I guess see 3.1.
4.1) The GM, as touched on before, is GOD. Not really, but it's not far from the truth. The GM has power over everything within his RP. He controls the plot direction, the characters, and the events.
4.2) To become a GM you should have some experience with RP'ing so that you can make an RP that people will want to join. You should also have some devotion to the RP so that you can keep the plot going and so you don't leave the RP'ers hanging.
4.3) There are no real rules for GM'ing since you are in fact making the rules for your specific RP. Some things to keep in mind are keeping any sides (good vs. evil) fair and not just killing off RP'ers randomly. See 4.2 for more.
4.4) See 4.3 and 4.2.
4.5) See 4.3 and 4.2.

ooh- teh "what are that "Are Pee" thang?"

(option uno)
A group of people come together and produce of a storyline, whether science fiction, fantasy, or realistic, people have a chance to show their ingenuity through one or several characters by showing its emotions, beliefs, feelings and actions. This person obtains the power to create their character down to its very hopes and dreams, being able to control everything they do and discover. This presents roleplayers that amazing feeling of supremacy and importance, this sensation we crave more. For many, roleplaying is an escape from the real world, a place where they can convey their inner passion of creativity, writing, and imagination, and more so, an inspiration. An encouragement to continue to craft worlds of alternate reality, to take hold on what they do best and continue increasing their abilities to further bring out the talent they hold within.

(option four)

RP’ing is writing a story from a character’s perspective. There is a GM, or a Game Master, who controls the flow of the game and makes sure that everyone stays in line. There can be several people in an RP, each one controlling one or more characters and writing about their emotions, feelings, and actions.
