View Full Version : Question about renaming units
Ok, I am working on campaign sort of and I want rename some units. But there is a problem.
Say I want to rename the Terran Marine to say Milita Marine for the Red Terrans, but I want to also rename the Terran Marine to say Local Police Officer for the White Terrans.
Problem is you cannot have them like that, you can only have them named one thing for all the Terrans, no matter what color they are. So there is my delmia.
Is there any way around this? BTW I use SCXE
There is a way, but this can only be used for human players.
Create a location (3x3 or the like), say, "MarineReplace".
Center this location on a marine owned by the human team (via trigger), remove the marine, and create a Jim Raynor marine unit, which will be renamed accordingly. Make sure you set the HP, damage, armor, and other stats for Jim Raynor to be reasonable for an ordinary unit.
This trigger needs to be preserved in order to execute repeatedly.

Hmm, I'll try it. Thank you.
Ok, back again, I had another brainstorm. Could it be possible to make a(just one) Barracks produce the Jim Raynor units without it being obvious that the Marine is disappearing and a Raynor unit is appearing in its place? And also have the other Barracks produce regular Marines.
I would like to hear opinions before I spend an entire day trying to figure out if this is possible. I've been gone from making my own campaigns for a while and I'm a bit rusty.
It is possible, althought players won't be able to than buy firebats/ghosts/medics from that spacific barracks.
You'll need two locations, one in the size of the barracks +1 grid to every direction (and it should be placed on the barracks) while the other one should be in any size you want as you want... actually just make it 1x1 (other sizes may cause problems depending on the location of the barracks in the map... if you want I can explain tho' it doesn't matters).
The trigger:
Players:
owner/s of the barracks
Conditions:
Current Player brings at least 1 firebat/ghost/medic(choose only one of them) to 'the first location I described'
Actions:
Center location labeled 'the other location' on firebat/ghost/medic(the one you chose before)
Remove 1 firebat/ghost/medic(the one you chose before) for current player at 'the other location'
Create 1 Jim Raynor at 'the other location'
Also, use hyper triggers, and it won't be seen that there is a replacement being made (it will be obvious tho to every mapmaker plays the map).
Thank you too. I'll go try that and go read up on hyper triggers. I've never used one before.
Also it doesn't matter that I will only be able to buy one kinda of unit from that perticular barracks, becuase the barracks I'm planning to do this with is going to be the town barracks that is supposed to house all the Police officers for the Town. So I want only one kinda of unit to be able to come from that barracks anyway.
If I can get this to work, I might have yall testing a map soon if yall want too.

Um.... Yah.... It's not an EXACT copy because Jim Raynor has a faster attack and longer vision (I think about the vision, know about the attack)...

Also, if anyone used maphack they know why the second reply's thing would work, but there would be no time limit that way. The second you order a unit it waits in the middle of said building. If you have maphack you can see that. Putting a time limit on it makes it more realistic.
Actually, allowing him to build marines would be fine, because when it 'came out' of the said barracks, it would be a Jim.
But as the guy said above, Raynor fires faster.
