HOW IT WORKS
-------------------------------------
This RP is somewhat similar to PvR. However, there are rules that will restrict what you can and can't do. For example, your character has a certain point limit (usually 200) which can't be exceeded. Everything relative to your character, from the Race he is (no, not Black or Asian or whatever, I'm talking Lizardman, Human, Elf, etc.) to the weapons he uses, will take away some of your points. Also, weapons can only be used a certain way, for example, no throwing a sword, and no exceeding your ammo limit on bows, crossbows, and javelins. This is a brief outline, I will explain the rules more thoroughly in a sec. At the end of this post I will make a complete list and stats for every race, weapon and attribute in the game.

YOUR CHARACTER'S BASIC ATTRIBUTES
--------------------------------------
- Race
This affects what attributes your character can take (I'll explain attributes in a minute). Also, it affects your character's appearance and innate attributes, innate weapons, and other things (once again, I'll tell you evrything in a while).

- Attributes
You are allowed to take on Attributes to your character. Attributes cost points, but can be very helpful. Basically, they are abilities your cahracter can use ONCE PER POST.

Some attributes, called Innate Attributes, came with the race of your character. You do not have to spend points on innate attributes; they are completely free. In addition, you can use them whenever you feel like it, so you don't have to go by the one-use-a-post rule for normal Attributes you decide to get.

Not all Attributes are available for most races! The races are limited by their own abilities, and can't even try to learn to do things other races can. For example, while most races can learn to swim, Trolls are simply too bulky and dull for a task as delicate as swimming. While most races can take on the Swimming attribute if they choose, Troll can never use this attribute np matter what. To figure out which attributes are available, have a close look at your race's stats. Any attributes not listed under the "Attributes allowed" stat cannot be learned.

- Weapons
A character is defenseless without a weapon. You will want one of these for obvious reasons.

Weapons are kind of like attributes. You can have as many as you like, provided you're still under your 200 point limit, and once you get a weapon, your character is assumed to know how to use it.

Like attributes, certain races can't use weapons other races might be able to. For example, that big, dull Troll who can't swim is at an advantage because he can sweep a log at his enemies if he so chooses, while an Elf is way too weak to pick up something like that. Weapons available to your race are listed in the "Weapons allowed" stat. Any weapon not listed there is not available to that race.

A few races automatically get a weapon for free. These Innate Weapons, like Innate Attributes, you have no matter what and are free.

Ranged weapons (bows and javelins, to be exact) have an ammo amount. You can't exceed the ammo amount in one post. On your next post the ammo is considered refilled; however, your ammo limit is determined by how many points you invest in it. The more points you spend on a bow's ammo score, the more arrows will be available in each post.

(Whew, that was long! Now that you have a basic idea of how the characters work, I'll tell you how to play.)

HOW TO PLAY
--------------------------------
- Introducing you character
On the first post you make you must introduse you character. You must include their race, the attributes you have chosen for them, and the weapons you have chosen. Your character's stats should look like this when you introduce them:

Name: (name)
Race: (race)
Attributes: (attributes)
Weapons: (weapons)
(Weapon Ammo amount (if applicable): (ammo amount))

Easy as cake!

- Playing
Playing this RP is very easy. You basically describe where your character is and what he does at that time in your post. Basically, we're all writing a story together. You cannot, however, exceed your ammo amount or use attributes you don't have. If you double post, figuring you'll just refill your ammo, it won't work. When you double post the two posts are considered to only be one.

- Cheating
Pretty grim subject, huh? Like anything else, the possibility to cheat is high in this game. You are cheating if you:

- Exceed the 200 point limit in any way
- Do things linked to attributes you don't have
- Exceed your ammo limit in a single or double post
- Exceed the once-per-post limit for non-innate attributes in a single or double post
- Kill another human player's character (enemies and NPCs are okay, though)
- "God Mod", in other words, make your character omnipotent and nuke the world or whatever twisted ideas may spring to mind

Cheating is bad. Should you cheat, you'll be expelled from the RP, in other words, I'll say the word and you can't play in it anymore. If you are expelled the other players will basically ignore anything and everything you might say after you're expelled. If you are expelled and you have a character, that character is turned into an NPC and we can do whatever the heck we like with him.

Of course, I won't be unreasonable. If you only go 2 or 3 points above the point limit because you didn't compute it right, I'll probably let it slide. Likewise, if you forget your ammo limit once or twice, it doesn't really matter unless you purposely "forgot" it to God-mod yourself some glory.

STORY
---------------------
The people of the gentle village of Wyndamiir expierienced their first theif a while ago. He stole items from everyone in town, including yours. After awhile they cought the theif and chased him out of town. Determined to get you things back, you left town with your friends (everyone else in this thread) to catch him and take back you stuff.

Although you never caught him, the day you came back an old man told you the robber's exact location. Puzzled by how the man could have possibly known, you decide to try and catch the theif there anyways.

When you and your friends caught up to him, he gave back your items without a fight. However, he begged you to spare his life, as a Centaur-mage named Conatarien was the theif's master, and the one who wanted the stolen goods.

Your friends and you decided that end end had to come to the Centaur-mage to prevent further problems. Unfortunately, the problems you will encounter along the way will be far worse and more dangerous than stolen goods...

UPDATES:

3/19/04 - Gnome & Dwarf races added, story added, Axe weapon added, fixed problem where Human could get a Club but couldn't get Gargantuan Strength. Ability to make character female added as well.

3/23/04 - Arrow cost reduced from 12 to 5.

4/11/04 - Husbandry ability added. Those of who who hunger to be a knight, rejoice!

I'm pretty new to all this, but I've been monitoring this particular board for a little bit now, so I have some questions. (Don't yell at me if I ask something stupid.)

1. Where's the magic?
2. Shouldn't the skill list be expanded to include more skills (stealth/sneaking, magic, staves, magic, daggers, MAGIC, etc.)?
3. Can we add races? Gnomes were always my favorite, and Dark Elves/Drow were another one, too. Being evil makes me smile :).
4. Can the non-talkers speak with one another in their own language and take "talk" in order to communicate in a universal language?
5. How exactly does combat/character advancement work? <-----Not sure if this applies in something like this.

Once again, sorry, I'm new, but I think that these things need to be addressed.

Oh, maybe the name could be something like, "Hey, Mechsaurian, were you one of the MECHs on the Realm?" Oops, that was just a question. Let me try again:

Urm...

Well, there doesn't seem to be a main focus to this game, so you may want to include a plotline and such to help yourself out.

Just my 2 copper/silver/gold/platinum/credits, or whatever the heck you're going to use.

EDIT: Just thought of something--with characters that don't exactly have "developed" tongues, does there need to be roleplay within their speech? Like with the lizards, a hissing, albeit clichéd, noise for the "esses" (how would I go about spelling that? S's?)? Grunts and broken english for the trolls/orcs?

1. Didn't want to do anything too advanced yet. Becides, there aren't any real rules for this; I didn't want to make the characters too powerful.

2. Like magic, this isn't needed. The game isn't too complex; you get a weapon, some skills, and basically do whatever you want.

3. I suppose that would be a good idea; I didn't wnat to make too many races at first because I wanted to cut down on my initial post's length. Tell me if there's a race you'd like to see, and some reasonable specs for them, and I'll add it.

4. Talk is a very important ability; notice that every race either has it from the start or can learn it in order to use it once-per-post. So no, if you make the bad decision not to get talk, you can't, ever. To make the talk ability more attractive, I lowered the point cost by quite a bit. 75 is too much for an ability that's so important.

5. Once again, no rocket science here. You basically do whatever you want. You seem to have caught on; there's no leveling up or anything like that. Take a look at the Party vs. Radicals; I was hoping for something like this, but not so customisable.

In response to your non numbered items, first, I must somewhat embarrasingly admit that there is no story yet. I was hoping people who come to the thread could help me with that.

And to your edit: it doesn't matter; it is up to you. If your character can talk, they can talk. It's up to you to decided whether they have an accent or whether they know the language well enough to talk.

No, there isn't cash in this RP. Everything is based on points; you get everything from the start.

EDIT: I figured it out! Why you didn't get it!

The problem is, you probably assumed at first that this was an RP with rigid rules, HP amounts, weapon strengths, and so on. Basically, the weapons you get are based solely on personal preference rather than their strength. In addition, you might have noticed the presence of seemingly worthless abilities like Swim. They don't affect the rules because there AREN'T ANY, other than "don't cheat". Once again, they're based on what you want your character to be like, rather than serving any real function.

To simplify everything, I'll say that nothing in this RP has any purpose and only affects the game in how you make your character use them. This is a barely more than a story waiting to be written with a few guidelines to keep it relative.

Well, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking, so thanks for the clarification :). Anyway, I'm thinking about joining Dawn of Civilization, so I'm not sure about this one right away. I'd enjoy helping develop it, but I'd like to see how it goes before I jump in.

OK, brain working too much NOT to help with this. I'm going to make several observations about the setting and we'll build off of there.

1. The races aren't at war, or at least there is no evidence to support that they would be.

2. There is a lack of a "big baddie", so there aren't Undead hordes ravaging the land and women (Big Momma Troll needs some lovin') or something like that.

3. No cities are present--this is something that should probably be remedied. After all, we can't all start off in the wilderness.

Thus, we need to create a conflict and a general layout of the world, something that will give characters a reason to band together.

Any ideas?

For the plot, I'm thinking we should start with something small and let it gradually unravel to something much more massive in scope.

For example...

Let's say that there have been occasional thefts around town. Your character decides to find out who is taking things to get them back for the reward (or, maybe he wants to sit on his duff and do nothing). While adventuring about, he joins up with FeceMan and RandomPerson1 who are going treasure hunting or looking for a thief as well or just having a party. The three talk amongst themselves and agree to track the thief with you. Well, one day, there's an angry mob chasing a rapscallion out of town (complete with pitchforks and torches); you inquire about what is happening and it turns out, the guy they are chasing is most likely your thief. So we all take off after him, whooping it up with various war cries, and he ditches us through a trap door or magic ladder or something of the like. We are all bummed out, but then, ta-da! an old man from town (who is actually a wizard) tells us his location and we go, fighting all sorts of creepies along the way, and eventually capture him. The guy's a squirmy bugger, but it turns out that he's stealing things because his master, the Great Satan or MuleFace or someone, forces him to. Seeing as how we are all upright members of the community, we decide to have a word with Mr. Evil. Oh, no! Mr. Bad is using the odds and ends taken to formulate some sort of Big Killing Device to take over the world of (insert name here)! Heavens to Betsy! Oops, we get captured, thrown into a dungeon, and have to escape. After repeatedly confronting Mr. Satanasaurus and apparently killing him several times, he JUST COMES BACK TO LIFE (like in so many animés...)! This goes on and on and on and on, becoming more complex and involved as we get used to it.

Whew.

Since I can't think of anything better (and he's the only one to say anything) I'll use his story. Stay tuned, it may take me awhile to modify it (not change anything, just make it more "professional" sounding) and add it to my first post.

madman5, I like the gnome and shopkeeper ideas. I'll add them. Sorry, can't do mini weapons, I can't think of why a Gnome wouldn't be able to use regular ones.

I'm also thinking of adding a Dwarf as well, for a "fantasy" RP they are strangley absent. Dark Elves would be cool too, I guess they could be like regular ones but can use different weapons or something.

Time to get to work!

Oh Yeah! Uh huh! Whosyadaddeh!

Check the first post. Time for me to make a character (hopefully others will follow suit)

OOC - thanks for joining. I guess I'll lower the arrow cost to 15 (jk, I'll lower it to 5). I'll start the story going also. If you feel that those 60 extra points will help, go ahead and edit your post to spend them on something worthwhile (I'd suggest a sword for up-close and personal defense, but that's just me). Let's get going!

Argonius awoke from his troubled slumber with a hiss. His turbulent night had been punctuated by nightmare, which was unusual for a cold-blooded mind such as his. As he gently cleared the sleep from his eyes with a delicate claw on his hand, he looked over to his desk and noticed something was missing.

Growling, he searched his whole desk for the 450 point book his mother had given to him after he'd hatched. It was nowhere to be found.

Feeling cheated, he decided to check his neighbor, Valina's house to see if something of hers had been stolen too.

He waddled down the path on his long, clawed legs, noticing that the aplles had been plucked from his tree as well.

He sidled up to Valina's door and knocked with a clawed fist.

"Stuff stolen from your place too?"

Valina grabbed her bow, slipped on her armor, fastened her quiver, and stepped outside.
"Let's go."

Mechsaurian

Argonius nodded, and said, "Wait, I have forgotten my ssspear and javelinsss. Let me get them".

With that, he tottered off to his stick hut and grabbed his expensive spear and hand-carved javelins from the corner. He came back to Valina and nodded, heading down the path.

Along the way a trio of Goblins appeared! Argonius, thirsty for blood, made the first move, hoisting up his spear and impaling his closest adversary on it. He glanced at Valina, silently asking her to fire her bow, as he himself was in a vulnerable position with both his hands on the spear.

Look guys, I'm sorry, but I gotta drop out. I've got a lot going on, my grades are dropping, and I only have time for a few RPs, and this one really (no offense) isn't on my priority list. My sincerest apologies.

Valina began to draw her bow, and fired twice a top speed. She struck one goblin in the chest with the first arrow, and the second went past the ear of the last surviving goblin. That last goblin had charged at her, altering his height and position enough that the arrow missed. The goblin, armed with a small rock and short sword was coming up fast. She dropped her bow and took a fighting stance. The goblin hurled his rock as he came on. Valina tried to dodge the missle, but she wasn't fast enough. It gashed across her eye and she reeled, screaming. The goblin, only a few feet away now, lunged forward. Valina's body bent as the sword pierced her abdomen. Fiery pain lept forth from the wound, and she went crashing to the ground, lying on her back. She was unable to move, as the blade had grazed her spinal cord, causing her to lose control and black out. The goblin withdrew his blade, then brought it crashing down into her skull, cleaving it. Valina was no more.

OOC- Of course you can join, Tanian-Hawkwing. Just try to find a way to jam yourself into the story (but make sure you've actually created a character first.)

Snarling at the premature and undeserved death of his lifelong neigbor, Argonius hurled a javelin, dipped in frog venom, at the Goblin. It pirced the tiny brute and soaked the dirt with his blood. Argonius oulled his javelin out of the corpse and spat on the creature.

Realizing he would have to go on alone if nobody else had been robbed, Argonius only hoped one would aid him. Robbed of his companion AND his book, he was determined to find and kill the theif responsible for the whole mess.

I awoke. I'm in a dark room.. linked to nearby wall by a chain and a collar.. no mystery here, somebody captured me.. I've feared this for long. Some bandits indeed said, when they thought that I couldn't listen, that one of my kind would be valuable.. as a pet.. and/or a slave.

The door opens. Two large silhouettes appear, they take a whip, and attempt to .. "train" me.. and use the whip every time I do something wrong..

One day.. I've done everything they said.. they trust me enough to take me out of the building, but I still have the collar on. I hate them for everything.. for the slavery.. I decide to attack them to get free. I release the full fury stored in my heart, and the slavers die painfully.
I was able to only remove the wire, the collar is still around my neck. In addition, there is shackle rings left on my knees, too.. I have to get rid of them when I'm able to.

Over there is a forest, now is the time. I am free..

(ooc: p.s now is the same time you start, as this "starts" mine)

I arrive to the town I was taken from. I notice that there has been efficient thieves around, lots of stuff seems to be missing. Luckily, I didn't have anything in my small residence, everything is hid.

I anyway go to the town forum, and ask:
"Whats.. happeneds.."
One of those say:
"We've been thieved, there is a party going to return our valuables over there."

I join them, and fight with the mace I dug up.

I don't know about the horse... I suppose I could make it an option if it was sort of expensive, but depending on how many ponts you have expended already, you may or may not have to edit your post to fit the point limitations.

I'm suprised to see that no one decided to be a shopkeeper... It's not like we need one, but then again...

Okay, enough OOC rambling. I'll see what I can do about the horse, and everyone, PLEASE include in your description the total points you used up. Argonius stood, his spear dripping, over the prone bodies of the slain goblins and his neighbor Valina. Although things seemed to have gone horribly wrong, he might not have to venture alone... Three (OOC- Whiteknight, you might have to join a little later, but don't worry, probably just a few posts from now) figures were walking towards him, one running. A slender, handsome Elf holding a traditional bow, a strange creature which Argonius had never seen before, and last, a Lizardman who, from the relative sheen of the scales and shorter fangs, must be female. When the three made their way to Argonius, he looked around and asked in his raspy hiss, "Who are you people? Do you need sssomething of me? Or do you want to help me apprehend the evil theif who has angered the entire town?"

OOC post- no, like this. And lol, btw, you don't have to repost your old stats just edit your first post. It should look like this:

(name)
(race)
(atts)
(weaps)
(pts spent)
(pts left)

and the "end ooc" thing was for fun. You only have to do it if you want; it's suposed to resemble the "tags" around warborads script for images, quote, link, etc.

EDIT: gj whitknight. Way to change your stats. Now all you have to do is join the group.

(OOC: Seal, I think you have 135 left, or something like that, not 235 :)

Okay, time to join in this)

Dimitri shot out his hand from under the cover.

'Gotcha, you little thief,' he thought silently. He gripped the leg harder as the theif struggled to loosen the elf's hold. The theif started beating down on the arm with a candle that stood on the dresser.

"Uh... boss? There's... umm.... help boss?"

'So he wants to be free of my grip, eh?' Dimitri thought, as he slid a dagger out of it's sheath from under his pillow, 'then so be it.' The dagger flew out of bed. Blood splattered onto the wall as the foot separated from the rest of the theif's body.

"AHHHHHH!!!" The theif dropped to the floor, writhing in agony and clutching his leg. Dimitri saw the boss was distracted. The elf jumped out of bed and pulled the sword out of it's sheath.

"I suggest you drop what you have taken, as I would think you would value your life more." The boss bolted, but made this mistake, the fatal mistake, of not dropping the elf's longtime bow. With amazing speed, Dimitri shot after the man and swung his sword. The man's head fell the the ground as Dimitri sweeped the sword through the man's neck.

Dimitri regained the sword and went back to his house to get his horse and other weapons, and also to see if anything was missing. The man was still lying on the ground, but the pool of blood had gotten larger.

'Well, that's going to leave a stain...' Dimitri thought. He held his sword in two hands and stabbed downwards, decapitating the man's head.

The elf gathered his weapons and his horse, Spirit, to see if anyone else in town needed help with the theives. Dimitri still believed there were higher ranking theives around. The elf spotted a group of people up ahead and galloped to join them.

- "God Mod", in other words, make your character omnipotent and nuke the world or whatever twisted ideas may spring to mindAhem, seal? :)

OOC- ??? what happened? Did Seal use more than 200 points or something? I suppose we should let it slide JUST THIS ONCE if he did, since this RP is only about a few weeks old. I have decided to get rid of the Once per Post rule for talking. This ability is too important (and lizardmen need to talk too!)

Argonius stared around at the crowd, and it appeared that a powerful elven horseman was galloping up, too. "I know why you have gathered," began Argonius, "and I know what we mussst do. The theivesss must be captured and killed! Come with me, we will taste sssinner'sss flessshhh tonight!"

He waited for them to cheer and pointed into the wilderness. A large line of cloaked men were walking somewhat quickly away from the town. A wagon pulled by two well-bred horses was moving away. Something fell out of the back. Squinting, Argonius recognized his book in the dusty road. He screeched, "The theivess! They are getting away! Let usss ssslay them all!" And with that he bounded towards them. The theives heard him and whirled around, some pulling out scimitars, others utilising short bows. argonius turned around and motioned for comrades to join the fray before whirling around and letting loose a javelin at the neares theif. He was rewarded with a cry of agaony, as well as a flurry of three arrows, two of which glanced off his scales and the third piercing his leg. he fell to his knee almost instantaneously, pain lancing up his leg. He hoped the small rabble that had joined him would sight alongside hime, as he needed help right now. Trembling, he snapped the fletched half of the arrow off and began to push it through his leg. When the deed was done, he stood up again and took out his spear.

Beluril turned his back to the theives and everyone except the lizardman looked at him strangley. A theif jumped at him through the air and Beluril took out his quarterstaff and quickly struck down the theif. He turned to face the rest of the evil ones and he ran at them hitting away 5 arrows with his staff. He was about to kick one of them in the face when he felt an pain in his arm, he looked to the side to see a grinning bandit and then he noticed the blood coming from the slit in his arm. Beluril grabbed the man by the leg, threw him over and paralyzed him using an ancient technique.

OOC: Is anyone still interested in this rp?

Mechsaurian

OOc- I strongly doubt it if they are, I suppose they could carry on, but I have forsaken this RPG due to lack of interest and lack of time. Sorry guys, if anyone seriously wants to continue this you could find someone else to enforce the rules, but I'm outta here, so otherwise this thread will most likely be deleted in a while. see ya.
