View Full Version : irc suggestion (yet again)
set up a idlerpg channel, if that could increase the amount of people on at once.
idlerpg is a bot program which runs a RPG around, you guessed it, idling. the more you idle, the better is your level. there is alot of different events too, so you dont get bored ;)

Mmm, I'll look into seeing if Innkeeper has the capacity to run an idlerpg bot :). If I do set one up, I believe it will be the only one on the ETG server, so we could pull quite a few people to our little channel ^_^.
Edit: Mmm, I seriously don't think that Innkeeper would be able to do this without blowing up. He's already a lagging P2 piece of crap :P. If anyone wants to set up an IRPG and can idle for infinite amounts of time, send me a PM

Maybe when I get my new computer in a few months. I can turn my old one into a server. Anyways, though my computer is on all the time, my computer's internet connection breaks off constantly and reconnects....

Wouldn't there be some program for this on the internet? Maybe one of the IRC sites? Or wherever Seal heard of this?
Oh...and:

There is a program for this, although it requires that you install a Perl 5.8+ server, a PostgreSQL 7.3+ server and DBI 1.42 & DBD::Pg 1.22 to run it. My computer is too crappy bad to be able to do that :P. Info on it can be found:

Radlin, you misunderstand. It only requires that you run one of those.
Anyways...

Since PERL is a programming language, PostgreSQL is a database and DBI is the module used for PERL to interact with the database, I highly doubt that ^_~. All three aforementioned applications//servers are required in order for the source code to function properly.

If idleing is what increases my level in this particular idlerpg, then I would probably be the most powerful idler in the world for all I would have to do isget on IRC and stay idle week after week after week. ;)

I don't understand how this increases activity in IRC...wouldn't it make people less likely to carry on a conversation?

Well, does it count idling or time spent in channel? If it's only idling, then I would tend to agree with you two.

Well I like the idea, but I agree it wouldn't increase activity.

Someone explain this to Neo for he is confused. People being idle = more activity?

I think someone's already mentioned this, but I'll reiterate if that's the case...
It would be more beneficial to reward longest time spent in the channel / most lines of posts made, rather than discourage posting. The only concern I have with a "most posts made" scheme is that it might bring back the spamming...

Would it be possible for a Karmabot? It sounds crazy, but in an IRC channel, it might do well.
If you want to give karma to someone, you type "+Karma-*user*" or something. This would give them one karma. Or if you don't like what they say, you use "-Karma-*user*" and that would take away. The more Karma you get, the more different the bot would respond to you, maybe? It would be interesting to try...
Who knows. Just a suggestion. Do with it what you will.

Um, what's karma?
Other than that, it sounds like a great idea.

Karma might be fun, except there would be some who might give/take karma based on prejudices against other members. A way to remedy this could be to only allow karma to voiced users. However, that requires an active op to voice/devoice appropriate persons.

The whole system - as you've described it - wouldn't work.
