Honestly folks, is it too much to ask that you get someone who can at least look intimidating? From 1938 to present day, Superman has never been less than 200 lbs. Routh looks like 180 lbs. soaking wet.

The producers had two possibilities with this film in my opinion. Stick with the actor from TV, whatever his name is, since it already has a cult following, or go with a new actor, older and much more intimidating, much like the new Batman film is being billed. Instead, we have what amounts to a second rate actor replacing the Smallville character on the big screen. It would seem that these people have not learned their lesson yet, you must stay true to the origins! Sin City is an excellent example of a movie that stayed true to its origins, and it's getting rave reviews from critics all over. Spiderman, another film which understood the meaning of source material. Then we have Daredevil and Catwoman, need I say more? I fear that the new Superman movie is going to be yet another Catwoman, and the sad thing is that they can't even see what they're doing because they're blinded by their own egos.

And don't get me started on the costume. What the hell were they thinking when they chose Maroon???? And what's with the tiny S, everyone knows that the emblem should cover the entire chest, otherwise it looks like a T-shirt. Hrmmm, perhaps I am being a bit too critical,..... nope. ;)

Sorry, I just can't take him seriously as Superman. I don't care how well the movie does at the box office, it's going to be very difficult to see him in the main role. At least Christopher Reeves was tall and somewhat muscular. The only thing that Routh has in his favor is a cleft chin, whoopee. I think they accidentally cast Routh as Supes when they intended him for Jimmy Olsen.

It looks as if someone has been hitting the leg
machine too hard. His upper torso is tiny compared
to his legs.

Even though he was a liberal,
he made a half decent Superman. ;)

You know it probably has something to do with the latest Spiderman movies and Tobey Maguire. It has been shown successfully that wimps make good superheroes. :)

Yeah but you forget in the comics Spider Man/Peter Parker started out as a wimp. Superman on the other hand was never a wimp.

I was thinking the same thing, the only difference is that Spiderman was never really large in the comic books, not until the 90's at least. But yes, you may be correct, Toby may have ruined it for eberyone else. ;)

I did a bit of research too, according to DC, Superman is anywhere from 210 to 225lbs whereas Spiderman is a tiny 165 lbs. Just an interesting tidbit.

Cant wait for this new movie, I use to love reading superman comics from when i was about 8 years old.
Any ways the release date is set for June 28, 2006, The current rumored tital is "Superman Returns", 2 rumored alternate titals for the movie are "Superman V" and "Superman Lives"
Kevin Spacey will be playing Lex Luthor, I think he will be great at it, Kate Bosworth is in the roll of Lois Lane.
I think it will be awesome, I loved the original movies with Christopher Reeve as well.
I havent found an "official" site as yet, but movies.go.com (http://movies.go.com/) has fair bit on it here:- movies.go.com>>>>superman (http://movies.go.com/moviesdynamic/movies/movie?name=superman-returns_2006&genre=action&studio=Warner%20Brothers)

Are there any other Superman fans on WB?

EDIT:, Im sorry about that guys, I didnt see the other thread.

well, I'll be the only one that likes it. They cant do the old suit. then everyone will say that its a rip off of chris. this way its new. and I don't think the suit is bad. actually it pretty good to me. And the Hey ma, look no niples thing is cool. what is with that fad. erect nipples in a suit?

He looks as if he is in a wetsuit and has his muscles stuffed.... The maroon doesnt complement at all, it looks more evil than the previous. Also, the curly cue hair doesnt go well with his face.

I dont think they should remake the movie at all, and anyways, they shouldve used the guy from smallville.

I hope you're talking about that Smallville show and not Reeves, because I'd be worried by how out of the loop you've been :P

I agree with you on this, Nuts. He just doesn't fill out into the costume. It looks like bad casting on the director's part. Anyways, perhaps it won't take away from the movie. Perhaps.

BAH, BUGGER, I wrote a big post out then accidently hit something back and freakin....
Well I cant even remember what half it was now, so this is the revised version.

I dont know what all the fuss over Routh is, he looks like he will play the all round nice guy well. (that is the roll after all)
Superman doesnt need to be big, he could lift a car the day he arrived when he was 3.
I will admit my first reaction when i saw that photo of Routh as Superman was one of disapointment, but I havent heard him speak or anything.
Pluss if the graphics of Spiderman (wich rocked) are anything to go by there should be some cool visuals.

On a more serious note, I dont think its fair to compare Routh to Reeve, every generation has had there Superman and this is todays and hopefully in 15-25 years the comic will be visited again for the children of that time as well.

PS. I came across a cool Image of Superman and posted it Here:-SUPERMAN8 (http://www.nextworld.com.au/images/superman8.jpg)
Perhaps he is more the type of charactor some have in mind.

Heh, getting Firefox will solve that problem ;) It doesnt erase forms and such if you go back ^_^

Anyways... He just doesn't seem right, I have always imagined Superman as someone with a 'blockier' head (lol for lack of anything better) and a little stronger looking. Right now he looks short, and his costume looks stuffed... Lol...

But I am sure we will al watch it anyways ;)

I know what you mean about the "Blocky" head. It does make sense.

Hey what did you think of Mr Incredible?
I loved that show, thought it was great
(and he had a nice blocky head)

Touk is right, spuerman was always strong and his strength is not necessarily proportionate to his muscles because his powers are supernatural.
