Protoss' ancestors

I had a mod for starcraft and in it were a highly advanced Race and they were said to be the ancestors who were destroyed by another race they were at war with. they were much stronger than the protoss I wonder what race destroyed them?

Seeing as how it was a mod, you should ask the maker of the mod what the species that destroyed the Protoss was.
