View Full Version : Idea for Mod Program.

I have had a good idea for a new mod program, it will be a complicated project if anyone decides to undertake it. It will be able to change unit stats, names, built locations/orders, extract sprites, and a lot more. It will be easy to use, in that it does all the hard work (EG, making new attack animations). Anyone think this would be a good project to undertake? I think if this is possible, and it is completed, it would make the Mod community a lot larger. (BTW, this is my first post here, for like, ages.

Yeah, I think that it is a good idea. I've already started an idea for a similar program, but need to learn some more programming and stuff about the grp's and iscript before i do anything. If we got some people who know and could help write it, maybe it could be an program used by WB users. Maybe we could start creating one (layout wise) right now. I think the hardest part would be the EXE stuff that isn't stored in MPQ's. I understand and can change most of them(like Star/Memgraft) so if we do this, I'd love to be in on it.

Sounds like a great idea, Deezed, i approve and like.
Hey, does anyone know of a up-to-par GRP Editor? or just a Converter? I need to do some GRP work and I don't know of a program yet that can do it, any help would be hot, thanks!

To JF: Well, you can use a combo of RetroGRP and MSPaint or a similar program...
About the topic: Sounds like you are talking about an all-in-one modding utility so that we don't have all of the other programs (like, a combo of A3/AZ, Ice/IceCC, Stargraft/Memgraft, RetroGRP, binEdit, tblPad, etc.) and though that would be nice....well, I don't know if we have any programmers up to the task...I could do some, but not much.

Okay. We should setup a convention on MSN, to discuss this in more Detail. Is Stealthydeath still around? I think he would be a Very Valuble asset to this Project. So would BSTRhino.

You mean an integrated mod program? Wouldn't that be great?
I wish I could help, but my current two scheduled projects are the AutoModder (allows you to store mods in map files and have the load automatically when transferred over Battle.net) and Neutrino (trigger programming language. So I'd need more convincing about why this project is more useful or a whole lot easier than those two projects.
I love this idea. I would like to help to the best of my abilities. :/

I'd like to help if theres anything I can do. I don't know very much about programming though.'
BTW, BSTRhino, I'm really looking forward to that automod thing. Good luck on it.
Deezed, if I remember correctly, StealthyDeath is at college right now, and is too busy to do anything with starcraft.

Wouldn't hurt. But why not just a thread for now? I mean, we might not even get people working on it. People are getting lazier and lazier about starcraft modding.

Yeah, you got that right hidiho2. I wonder what kind of programming it's gonna be. All I know is Visual Basic. Deezed sent me an e-mail about this.

I ususally drop by once or twice a week to help people, but as hidiho has stated, I am far too busy to do anything else at the moment.
