:0. Oh no! All those poor Koreans! ;)

Found that little tidbit on Gamesurge's #wow IRC chat. Props go to whoever posted the link there :tu:. Hahaha, it's a funny one though.

I've seen it done before numerous times, and the fact that you give the joke away just makes it boring. Not to mention the fact that Korea actually is in the WoW beta gives it away as being false.

California. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was contacted immediatly about the actions going against his state and responded by telling us, "Kim Jong-il is a girly man who groped his way to the top. I am the Governator! I can not be stopped by a puny man like Kim Jong-il! I laugh in his face!" the Governor then called off the meeting as to attend to his new war efforts.

If I were they, they should of used a CNN tone then that.

Errr, no, the first wave of beta was restricted to America and Canada a long while ago.

Why is Blizzard only accepting beta test applications from U.S. & Canadian residents?

Due to multiple time zones and language differences, we have decided to limit the beta test application participants to the United States and Canada.

And way to ruin my fun ;). It was supposed to be a 'Haha' joke, not a 'Let's see if we can convince anyone that this is real!". It's hosted by angelfire, I think that would be reason enough to be suspicious . . .

Well they are trying to fool someone by using the CNN format, just reading it after the first paragraph makes it a weak joke.

Yes, but if yo look further down the FAQ, it seems Blizzard just contradicted itself.

Will any other countries be included in the beta?
Simultaneously to this beta, our World of Warcraft team in Korea will be launching beta servers for players in Korea. Betas for other countries will be opened as we are able.

So, is Korea in our out?

What I'm afraid of is the nearest WoW server from New Zealand will be 10 000 or so miles away in Australia. How am I meant to time my spells if there's a huge lag?

You may get some packet loss until the beta servers are up and running at fullpower, but most people I know don't have many problems with Blizzard's servers, even when they're thousands of miles away (ie. on the Lordaeron server when they're in Australia).

What Blizzard means to say in their faq is that the first wave of beta testing will be released only to America and Canada. Later on in the beta test, they will accept applicants from Korea, and begin another beta testing for Koreans. As you can see from the FAQ answer, they are launching servers in Korea as we speak, and will begin testing soon after that.

Initially Blizz was planning to begin beta testing with both N.A. and Korea. However, within the week before they accepted applicants for WoW beta, they decided to only accept N.A. applicants.

The thing is, WoW relies on its connection to the server much more heavily than StarCraft or WarCraft, since it's not peer-to-peer like those two RTS games are.

Indeed, indeed. Regardless, I'm sure you'll be fine. Perhaps I should have given a more accurate comparison:

Playing in a few MMO games in my time, I've never had trouble playing on European, Chinese, etc. servers. In fact, I've never really experienced a great deal of packet loss playing any MMOs, except for in some really bad betas.

Fung Wan was pretty bad at the start of its beta (was getting disconned a lot), but after they got their servers stabilized, even Fung Wan ran smoothly. Fung Wan Online servers are primarily situated in China; thousands of miles away from where I live.

Edit: Hmm, now I'm a wee bit confused. I'm not 100% sure if the applicants for the Korea Beta have already been taken for the first wave of Korean beta, but I do know that the servers are being worked on. Right now there are 29 people on the Korean World server. I can tell you that when Blizzard had the application form up, it did not include Korea.

Very obviously fake, but I still thought it was funny.

Is anyone here interested of building a web site with me?
