This list is fucking bullshit. The thing was totaly bias towards classic rock. I mean I saw The beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dilan's name on that list almost enough to make me puke. Not that their songs werent great, but wtf a list of 500 songs and over 400 of them are classic rock, that is pure disrespect to other great genres. They missed Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, Sublime, Tupac, and many others that arent on the list. There was a total of like 10 hip hop songs on the entire list, when hip hop songs are lyrically MUCH better than any of the fucking classic rock songs. I am really outraged. How the fuck could Rolling Stone fuck up so much on this list.

I am going to construct the "right" list, if anyone wants to help me here is where you get your point of view across. This may take forever, but it will get done.

Anyways, here is the list.

i can see what you are saying but you have to understand that to be an all time great song the song has to stand the test of time. therefore most of the list will be classic rock cuz that has already passed that test. another thing you need to understand is that this list is based purely on opinion (as any list of this type would be) cuz i dont think "Hey Ya!" by Outcast, number 180, although a good song should be on that list at all.

The test of time, fuck that, if music is good, it is good. There are many unforgettable songs from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam. Fucking list is bullshit.

lmao, you're right that list is total hogwash, but that's no reason to get all pissed about it, I mean how does this impact your life in a significant way? And don't tell me "well then the radio stations are going to start playing this shit" because you and me both know that radio stations already play shit.

You know what's going to be funny is reading the letters to the editor in the next issue of Rolling Stone.

I no longer trust Rolling Stone, at all.

Welcome to the ultimate jukebox: the second edition of the ROLLING STONE 500, a celebration of the greatest rock & roll songs of all time, chosen by a five-star jury of singers, musicians, producers, industry figures, critics and, of course, songwriters.

Technically, the Hip-Hop songs shouldn't even be on the list.

The only real problem I have with the list is that 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is ranked higher than 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Hotel California', and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was, in no way, more popular than 'Stairway to Heaven' at it's height, unless being the defining song of the Grunge Era boosted it up or something.

Whoa, so many Beatles songs :)

They got some really good ones in there... Don't Fear the Reaper...

Sorry Erwinator, I see very little wrong with this list, except of course for the fact that there are two Michael Jackson songs, and they don't have Trampled Underfoot by Led Zeppelin

And yes, Baba O'Riley!

Good find, even if you hate it. :D

Dude, Michael Jackson is the shit. You need to see the light. He makes great music.

Don't get mad Erwinator, its their opinion, and it is about rock and roll (I'd love to see more jazz, reggae, world music, etc). I would have included more Pink Floyd, less Rolling Stones and Beatles. And where is Santana? BTW: Nice sig.

Technically, the Hip-Hop songs shouldn't even be on the list.

Great catch... that had me laughing for a while.

I cant comment much on the songs though, as I don't listen to rock. I recognized only a handful. :(

Hmm... there were only a few songs on that list that I really like. I could recognise a fair chunk of them, but there was a lot I'd never heard of, either.

Ironic how there's so many Rolling Stones songs too, eh? ;)

...They missed Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, Sublime, Tupac, and many others that arent on the list...
*ahem*

"346 California Love by Tupac Shakur 1996"

"346 California Love by Tupac Shakur 1996" Sorry, missed that. Any they are probably judging this on popularity. That is bullshit, Tupac has way better shit than "California Love." "Changes" is probably the greatest rap song ever. Fucking posers.

Erwinator...clearly you are not aware of what some of the others have been saying. Allow me to reiterate. THE LIST WAS BASED ON ROCK AND ROLL SONGS. RAP IS NOT ROCK AND ROLL, OBVIOUSLY. HENCE NO RAP SHOULD BE ON THE LIST AT ALL.

Forgive the caps, I'm hoping it will grab his attention.

And Eminem's "Lose Yourself" was on there as well, but I can't remember the number.

Most of the songs in the list is from the 60s. I don't like most of the songs on the list. But I was suprised that Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit" was placed #9. Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" should've been higher than that. There shouldn't be any rap songs on the list. Just rock 'n' roll.

Whatever Rolling Stone says, it's still their opinion. Stop caring so much that a prevalant rock-based magazine publishes a list of the 'best songs of all time' and it so happens to be dominated by...well...rock songs? I find these lists interesting, sometimes, but I rarely agree with them.

Make your own list. That's the only on that matters, bro.
