View Full Version : Starcraft Modding Inactivity?

I have noticed that since the forum had its new "styles" and "upgrades" put in certain sections are seeming to have minimum or little activity. This modding section for example has mostly had questions asked but I have not seen a gol' darn thing about new mods being released for starcraft in almost a month. Is it because SC.org cannot host mods yet? Or are people not really willing to put effort into modifying Starcraft as much as they used to? When I joined these forums the SC modding section was busting (metaphorically speaking :P) with activity about new mods, and veterans making total conversions etc. But now, things seems slow and inactive.

Why is this happening?
(Sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum I just thought it was appropriate because it is discussing how "active" the SCD (Starcraft Depot) section is)

Modding is in somewhat of a decline, it seems nobodies interested in doing it anymore.

Everybody is doing other things. I just got warcraft 3 a week ago, so I've been playing it instead of starcraft. I thought that the release of memgraft 1.12b would get people interested in modding again, but it didn't really do much. I haven't quit modding. I have a project that I will be working on. Plus, it seems Starcraft is starting to decline in popularity. Probably because of all the Warcraft 3 stuff.

Well, I personally haven't any interest in modding for the time being. This doesn't mean I won't work on it, it just means that I currently am not really working on any mod(s). (Which reminds me, I really need to get that iscript done...) Anyway, I've been playing more War3 lately as well (with Hidiho. Go figure. :P), and that has sort of built in modding features. At any rate, I don't plan to abandon StarCraft/SCModding/mapping. My fields of interest are just currently focused elsewhere at the moment.

Others are just tired of StarCraft, which is understandable. For example, StealthyDeath doesn't play it much anymore, or do much of anything with it. This is understandable as he's been playing it for seven years. It loses much of its charm and luster after so long.

I don't think Starcraft modding is going to die, it is just in a slump, more than anything. Imo, anyway.

*cough* *automod (http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=13344)* *cough*

That'll bring it back, methinks.

Plus, it seems Starcraft is starting to decline in popularity.
Please. Starcraft mapping and modding has been "dying" now for 4 years. I'm still waiting for it to happen.

What? For Starcraft to finnally die? A sad thought indeed... http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/dday/frownyes.gif

Personally, most communities die after about a year or two. SC has lasted seven years and is still kickin!

it would be a shame if starcraft died, Personally, until they get around to making starcraft2 then it probably won't die any time soon. Also with how blizzard has been stopping modding either directly or indirectly, thats another cause for the downfall.

Since SC.org took out the mods database, SC modding came to a decline. I'm still interested in Starcraft, but not so much anymore. I'm thinkin' on starting to create mods for other games like Unreal Tournament. It's better to do something than do nothing. That's why I started modding, for something to do.

Folks have other priorities and alas also other projects to cling to before modding (or even mapping), imho. It happens in my case for a mere example.
Spending the spare times with it is always an interesting thing as Tux' showed, but unfortunetly not everyone is willing to use all it's spare time in that way. Again in my case, I grow tired of it from time to time and want to relax outdoors or along in other activities.

Imo the SC community will never really die out, but it could face a real slow pace for a few cicles of time. That is until someone resolves to puch up a new breath of life to it, like for instance was presented in that above link. Or even by our mere posting in here, since we're keeping it sorta goin' on (read alive). :)
