Explanation: I have a lot to do on StarCraft.org. StarCraft: Ghost comes out in 10 days. So I'd like to pick the individuals one.

Since I've already posted it in the other thread, I'll be quick: We should have a monthly map making competition only available to BlizzSCUMS members. There.
I do feel that we should try experimenting with different ideas before we just commit to one. We might make a list of everyone's ideas first. (so 'splain away!)
Sure, Rhino, Edvard, I absolutely agree with you.
But first I must know who's in on this :)

EdvardMunch, that is the best idea. I think you've just scored yourself a modship.

Meh....My idea first to have it loose.
Nozomu
02-08-2004, 6:45 PM
Count me in. But I warn you, when Doom and BST step into the same competition, fur may fly.
The loose thing is a great idea - you can be as unproductive as you want without inconveniencing the team. Sounds sort of sarcastic, doesn't it. Even I don't know if I'm serious, actually...

Go looseness!
Did anyone know that Edvard was one of the original Terraforum members...? Stupid failed team of 60 people.

I suck at coming up with ideas for projects, so I would probably never make another map again if I was independent.
I joined hoping to learn how not to suck at map making, but I don't know how much that is working out.
Go looseness!

WTF Doom? I never expected you see things in a pessimistic light. :\

Really? I was one of the originals? I didn't know that.
Joke Answer 2! I knew that! I joined right after he did.
Oooooooooo, a modship? I can delete everyone who tries to reverse my lie that I came up with it first! That would be awesome, although to maintain a false sense of modesty it would be unfair for one good idea to grant me something like that. Wait a sec, I wouldn't get blamed for... oh... say... deleting the entire forum, would I? Even if I was the one who did it?
Heh, I joined the club for something like 3 days and then ended up on the FBI's "Missing Internet Aliases" list for about 10 months. I seem to be doing better this time.
Yeah, the loose team thing was your idea Dark, but I applied all sorts of meaningless terms to explain why it worked when the reasons were intuitively obvious. Has Dilbert taught you nothing? You must complicate every simple solution as much as possible! If I could have figured out how to fit a pie chart and a line graph (which both preferably had the same data) into the post I would have. I'm already half way through planning my Power Point presentation.
Zergstain: My idea behind the competition was that it was okay for participants to be independent or in teams, so you could always work with someone. What dept are you in? If it's terrain, I wouldn't mind enslaving you, I passionately hate terraining.

Actually Edvard, I founded Terraforum and MacMan was the co-founder. You were the 3rd member after him.
Anyway, why so shocked UED? The idea is an ingenious one. Even though I thought of a great way to make it work in the Now... thread.

In my book, being among the first five members of a large membered group (like 60) = original. Just like how Dr. Pepper ripped off the taste of the first 4 soft drinks before it, which is why it can say it's "The Taste of Originality."
I love all the credit whoring everyone (me) is doing. I wish Al Gore would give me credit for creating the internet already! That bastard. If he had just given me credit, like I asked repeatedly, I would've allowed him to win the presidential election.

Are you saying that you can appoint new mods?
BSTRhino
02-08-2004, 7:34 PM
No... AJ put me in charge of forming the map/modmaking clan. Of course I can't appoint new mods, I'm just a moderator.
Correction: it was entirely Dark_Soul74's idea. Edvard just added the contest bit. Heh, what gives you the idea that I'm giving anyone a modship when Doom's there with his custom title? Maybe I'm just trying to drag you to this forum...

I would join this new mapmaking team/community, but the only thing I would know how to do are triggers. And the only other thing would be making customs.

We could have a modding section of the group...for special projects? Say, a spesific mod for a map?
BSTRhino
02-08-2004, 7:39 PM
Do we have to compartmentalise everyone if this is the winning choice: Yes, if it's more like a loose community of independent mapmakers?
Read my correction on the previous page. Post #20
Another correction: The idea just happens to be 100% like Zackarotto's mercenary system. Cool, we're really getting some teamwork in here.
Dark_Soul74
02-08-2004, 7:43 PM
Well...My idea of the perfect New BlizzSCUMS would be a community of independant map makers and modders, working on their own projects, but getting help from the others in areas that they lag in. Like if someone making a custom was bad at ICE they could ask someone that knew it well, or if somone had trouble making realistic terrain, they could get one of their friends here to get it done for them, or fix up their work. Heck, we could have a group of people review everything and say what needs to be changed or find bugs.

Ditto, and the competition. (Were people saying they liked the monthly map making competition or were they attributing the loner map maker idea to me and saying that was what they liked? If so, how does everyone feel about the monthly map making competition?)

Okay, here's what I've decided. I stay in BS until the Maze Game is finished, then I become a mercenary and respond to help wanted threads if I feel like working, and am qualified.
I can't say I can do much since I stop for 2 years from fanatic playing. I can test drive your maps if you guys want and give out story or planning suggestions.
Ok, looks like the winning choice is the "loose community of independent mapmakers".
I also support the idea of a monthly map competition, that would keep our spirits high :D
Btw, I'm writing from school since the school doesn't block this one. It kept blocking BF.

Don't start competetion yet til we see a increase of interest. We can start out as a team and if this team gets too crowd, we can start some competition!!!!!!

The competition is just a gimmick to motivate us to make maps. I think we have plenty of people to start the competition; we don't want too many participants, otherwise those who are competing will become anonymous. We need a certain number of humans to ensure a large, yet close, community, because the community is what keeps us going; and the competition is what keeps us as a community. Nothing like light hearted rivalry.

Hi, Anti-rush, I still remember your terrain. "Lake of Fire." I remember clearly I said something about you were doing great, and were on the verge of a breakthrough. I think all you need is a little bit of practice, so, maybe it would be better if you made some terrain for you to be rated again.

If we're doing a monthly competition, how about just release it as a joint SC.org/BS map pack, with the spotlight map being the winner!

Well...BSTRhino would have to add it to the Map Pack Section(preferably every 4 months), and if he could make an announcement saying that we have started doing this, and to expect a new pack every so often.

All in good fun.

In the meanwhile, I've begun my preparations for world domination... at least BF domination.
You should know that I plan on reviving BlizzSCUMS. I notified them of this (http://blizzscums.kupatrix.com/specialannouncement.htm).
Okay, anyways, what's the plan on this side of the line?
Is the decision of having a joint WC/SC MapMakingCommunity (MMC) final?
