View Full Version : The New Arena
Some of you remember that in the FIRST attempt of the WB Newspaper, I was running an article called "The Arena." I was posting fictional battles between two forces that are decently well known, but would never fight. Last time it was Star Wars versus Star Trek. The first Arena article for the new Newspaper will be one for you warcraft lovers.
Thrall versus Jaina Proudmoore.
Remember, cast your votes, and I'll write a story about it. You don't have a lot of time, so don't put it off.

Jaina, because a big bunch O' elementals can turn a full sized battle, what chance does one orc have?
Jaina. She'd hide in the background, then sneak up behind him and WHACK! G'dnight. 'Sides, I'm a Night Elf fan. What can I say ;)

Jaina's not a night elf, she's the daughter of Admiral Proudmoore of the Grand Alliance.(ever notice that before World of Warcraft, it was the Alliance of Dwarves, Elves, and Men, and now it's just the Grand Alliance?)

Zap Em With Chain lightning?

Chain lightning is not powerful enough when the elementals have a big whack of health (Am I right in assuming lvl 10 for both heros?) and are triple teaming him.
and deezed, posts like that are getting clamped down on these days, as one brit to another, stop it befor ban cannonage happens

well i think it would be a close match. the summoned creatures are kinda superfulous and would pretty much cancel each other out. that leaves chain lightning and blizzard. in the end i think Thrall would win due to more hp and when lvl 3 chain lightning is cast on 1 unit does more damage faster that blizzard does.

no, I do not think that the summoned creatures would cancel, Thrall can only have 2 wolves at any one time, Jaina can keep 3 W/E's going, and they have the better stats.
But thralls HP may be the deciding factor here.
Hmm, I think I will test it next time I'm having a LAN game.
If the thread has not died by then I will post the winner, along with how much health is left etc.

the w/e spell uses more mana and has a longer cool down time than wolves. and thrall can summon both at the same time send them after the one w/e and kill it. the next w/e would kill the first two wolves, then thrall summons his wolves again and they kill the w/e. it would be a never ending circle

The brilliance aura cancels out the higher mana cost.
So whilst the W/E and wolves keep kilin each other, blizzard is keeping thrall moving about instead of hitting jaina. and once he is out of mana, he is out, wheras jaina sits there saying "I AM THE WATER!", or not.

it takes time to cast blizzard. enought for thrall to get out of the way and not get the full damage from it. chain lightning cast once would take 25%-35% of Jainas hp instantly.

hmm, well, looks like a testing job then.
But it could go either way I suppose

save the replay and post it. please
Don't forget everyone, you don't have to do it all by stats. Think about the books and storylines too. Thrall is a incredible warrior in addition, and both of them have more spells than the 4 they have in the game. Don't let your opinions be restricted.

Ever since Warcraft II, I've been loyal to my orcs.

Thrall, because he's an Orc, which I believe would be stronger if a real battle were ever to commence.
ah, but physical strength does not always mean superiority in battle.
I submit, for your examination, exibit one: The Vikings.

Thrall is better. So just... there.

The Vikings made even the strongest men quiver in their boots for 200 years, so I don't see the reasoning behind your statement.

Never played (obviously warcraft saga) So I can't tell. This should go in the warcraft section.

singos example may be off but he does have a point. strategy and cunning can win over strength if used effectively.

No it shouldn't. It belongs right here because it is for the Newspaper. For this battle I used Warcraft characters. Next one I plan to use SC characters. After that, I might start putting in comic book characters, or movie characters, etc. etc.

Be this spam or not, I was about to say the same thing. Anyway, I still stand by my choice, Thrall would win. He's got strength and speed on his side. Besides, he could use his wolves, then chain lightning. Fast kill on just about anything.

My point is that they were big meaty friggers with huge axes that, whilst physically strong, eventually were defeated (ish)

Not really, it was rivalyry between the different tribes. No nation(if such things existed. Kingdoms at that time were usually just counties kept under control at spear and sword point)could effectively fight the Vikings, so they fought each other. But this is off-topic, so let's end this discussion.
