They've significantly lessened their audience with this move.

I was always astonished at how George Lucas was able to fit all of the other movies under 'PG.'

hmm, well, I don't think it'll turn off too many ppl, i mean, how many, well, 4-7 yr old kids are crazy enough about StarWars to be turned off? The movie is basically aimed at adults and older folks who have seen the other movies, so it won't much of a loss.

GrassDragon

I don't think their audience will shrink much either. So what more do we get to see with this rating?

We have restriction laws like that in my country, but nobody stops a 13 year old kid from going into an R-18 movie. :P that's what I like about this place!

No way! I cannot believe he is making a PG-13 movie :( Darn you Lucas... why did you have to screw up!?

well, put it this way, some disney movies were PG, and if the other starwars with the slashing, hacking, blah and blah was PG, then PG 13 is acceptable

..., that and i'm not 13 :P

The new Star Wars movie is going to be darker and more violent, and there may possibly be cursing, but since in all the other Star Wars movies, only once have I heard cursing, I would doubt it. Either way, it's supposed to have more violence, and it chronicles Anaking Skywalker turning into Darth Vadar, which, if played out right, should be more than enough to give it a PG-13 rating.

I don't think it'll matter much if it's PG 13 I mean so what toddelers can't go and watch people get cut into pieces by light sabres. I agree with Kongurus the third movie is gunna be darker, more violent and maybee even some cursing because it's about Anikan turning into Darth Vader and killing everybody. So I don't think that it'll lose fans but I also don't think it'll be appropriate for 6/7 year olds. So if your not 13 go with your parents or wait for it to come out on DVD.

I hope there is no sexuality in it... :o Because in Ep III Pademe' has to have twins (Luke & Lei) so I hope the PG-13 rating is for a violent/cussing reason... other wise I will be *&^%3$ off.

Trust me, it won't. Star Wars isn't known for that, it's known for the Force, bigass battles, and the Jedi, so I doubt Mr. Lucas will do that. Besides, it's comes out in 2 months. Either it's done filming, or almost done filming, so I doubt it's in. Otherwise, George Lucas is getting hate mail from me.

To be honest, I don't see this as too much of a harm to the profitability or audiences to Star Wars.
I wouldn't have taken a child to the earlier Star Wars movies any more readily than I would to this one.

Why not AJ? I didn't see anything above the PG level in the previous films

DeltaForce

hmm, i agree with AJ. the original ones, not the episodes, were imo, extreamly boring and really cheesy. only the two episodes were really what i would call "StarWars" material, or what i thought starwars would be like.

the original trilogy was a technological marvel in its time. we are spoiled by current technology when it comes to effects. all 3 were written better than episode 1 and 2. they were just as action packed (if not more) than the current renditions. episode 3 looks like it will be the best of the new trilogy and as good as Return of the Jedi.

Eh, I think PG-13 makes a movie better if its been upgraded from a lower rating, means more action.

I disagree, I hated the newer ones. They only seem cheesy now because we like computer generated graphics, and fancy special effects, and people getting splattered by cars. My favorites are definitely the older ones, though that lightsaber scene with Yoda was really cool.

hell, the exessive CGI in one and two pissed me off something chronic.

everything was too shiny!

And I hope to god Darth Vader is still played by a man in a suit not a guy on a PC, otherwise its riot at the cinema time

vader is going to be played by the same actor as anakin (hayden christianson?). i saw it in a preview on the bonus disc for the original trilogy dvd set.

Which was made of a space aged materiel called plastic! Still cool though. Man it sucks how Yoda is all computer generated in the new ones.

As for the movie being PG-13, well it just means that you'll have to go with your parents if your to young, and if it wasnt rated like that you would have anyway.

Well for one, in this mjovei, the jedis are hunted down.

GO to www.starwars.com (http://www.starwars.com) to see the trailer, ad youll see why it's rated pg-13
And,, Lord of the REings, Return of the King could have been rated R easily. Look at the blood and violence level. My brother is 5 and he saw them all in theaters. Just cus pg-13 dosnt mean bad. The rating may be due to difficult situations. Think about it. Why is anikin killing the droids mommy?
Come on, you can see it huh?

actually, MR Jones only suplied the voice, he wasn't the actor, onthing about this triology that hasnt sucked so far is Yoda. And well Mace is just awsome. come on a bald man with a purple lightsaber?? you tell him hes wrong!! If he is man enough to have a purple lightsaber, hes man enough to beat your arse with it. :p and the PG-13 is because we get to see anakin get his but beat down by ben. he looses his arms, his legs... and various other stuff falling in lava, the emperor is gonna save him. if that deosnt scream graphic, nothing does.... i just hope it isnt as silly as when they killed off quai gone ( how ever you spell it. bens mentor )

Killphill

If he is man enough to have a purple lightsaber, hes man enough to beat your arse with it.Haha, so true. Mace is the jedi captain dude right? Who says "this party's over!" or something like that in Episode 2, lol.

Well if it's hardcore like bounty hunting then mabye it should be rated PG-13. Wait wtf is "hardcore bounthunting"?

What I mean is if the jedi's are getting hunted down and killed like dogs.

Erm... Darth Vadar doesn't(or, shouldn't)lose his arms or legs, and various other stuff, because if he did, he would have died. And he never actually fell into lava because A)it would have killed him and B)it hasnt been said whether or not he does. I think he loses the fight with Obi-wan and is hurt that way, and it just so happens they were fighting near volcanoes. If you can, provide proof of Anakin falling into lava. As far as I know, it's just a rumour.

Killphill
04-06-2005, 6:28 PM
Well we at least know that he'll lose most of his former body and most of it will be machine.

kongurous

Why do you think that? I know his right arm is machine, but I'd like to know why it is view that Vader will lose most of his body. It may be Star Wars, but Anakin IS human, and humans can't survive much.

Killphill
04-06-2005, 7:56 PM
Comon Obi-wan even says "He's more man then machine" in the first one (real first one). He probely lost most of his parts while hunting down the Jedi. Comon they're Jedi's, you cant expect him to hunt them and not get a chunk out of him.
He's either gonna get wounded in a fight or the emporer dude is going to injure him so he can be more controlable. Or something like that.

I could be wrong, but i think he (Annakin) get's big-time fried by lava or something along that line... At least that's what one of the older books had in it years ago. I'm glad Lucas finally got some balls and is deciding to make what will hopefully be a REAL movie! PG13! Bring it on!

He should be flogged for the whole Jar Jar thing...

For those who think this will effect it's popularity/money making ability in a negative way... You're CRAZY!

Comon Obi-wan even says "He's more man then machine" .

"He's more machine now than man", not the other way around :P

And he is pretty damn frigged, because if he was not he could have been healed and would not need that amazing suit (although if I were him, I'd keep it anyway), he needs a respirator to breath, and I'd guess a lot of other bits are mechanical too.

Mindslaver

Apparently they wanted to make the entire film CGI. And they basically did.

See the CBS News Article (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/03/10/60minutes/main679325.shtml) about it.

When 60 Minutes first visited Lucas six years ago, in the midst of making "Episode I", he said his goal was to make an entirely digital movie. He's now done it, using digital cameras, digital effects, and even digital characters.

That can't be good...

They show Vader in the trailers, and he's a real, um, person. Not CGI, anyways.

Besides, the only good CGI character ever was Gollum from LOTR, and because he actually had a part in the story. Jar Jar didn't, or at least the part (if any) could have been given to a non-annoying character. Like, say, Chewbacca. Chewie kicks ass.

That, and he had some actually interesting character development-

Gollum- we wants the precious!
Smeagol- but master said not to!
Gollum- but dirty nasty hobbitses tricks you
Smeagol- yes! kill them both!

Jar Jar: Die Jar Jar DIE!
Chewie: Rock on!

Maybe Chewie will play a game with Jar Jar and lose. And then pull out Jar Jar's arms.

Why did you go and read the book before the movie even came out? It kind of seems like it would ruin the movie for you. The book is based on the movie, and so it should be exactly the same. Also, what dumbass thought it would be a good idea to release the book based on Episone III before the movie even came out.

Bah, I like the originals. And I mean the very originals before he went back and redid everything and added on. He worked under pressure and he managed to create under pressure and he made something that was much better and more imaginative than the add ons he put in on the "revised" versions.

This PG-13 rating won't hurt the amount of people coming to see it. Most theatres don't care about that, and, besides, a parent will most likely be along with those under 13 because how else are they going to get there? If this movie needs a PG-13 rating to make it better, than so be it. I won't think any less of it.

The rating doesn't really bother me, sucks that after 5 movies he broke the record but if theres alot less romance, and more fighting im happy. I mean come on ppl this is Starwars not a friggin soap opera. Bring on the saber battles!!
