View Full Version : t v z - how to get past sunken cols in early game
hi,
when me and my freind play starcraft, he is zerg and i am toss. he doesn't get a good offense until late in the game. instead he builds lots of sunken colonies to protect his base.
i usually do a zealot rush and then go goons but i can never get past his colinies.
i have a few problums.when i rush Im slow to tech up to reavers. I get them but by that time he has a big offense and he out rushes me with zerg and i lose.
i think if i do a strait upgrade to reavers i can probably win him. i'm just wondering if there's an easier way to take out sunkens in the early game.
thanx in advance.

Couple questions:
-What kind of maps do you guys play
-Is there a no rush time during your games
-how many suinkes are we talking
- how long does it usually take you to attack
-What kind of maps do you guys play
i play regular maps but with him i play fastest. dont yell at me for playing fastest. thanks.
-Is there a no rush time during your games
no, no rush rules.
-how many suinkes are we talking
6-10 sunkens
- how long does it usually take you to attack
i get a desent amount of zealots in the beginning. i've never timed, but i'm guessing 'lots in about 3-5 min and goons within 6-8. normal games for me last around 15-20 minutes (on fastest). i have goons well before half of the game, which is why i say 6-8 min.
thanks for the help calibur-apoc (what does that mean btw?)

Well no wonder you cant take him out, your zelot rush takes long specialy for fastest. It's probably do to your building strategy.
There is a little trick I know for fastest that could help you out, I call it probe rotation. Basically what you have to do is constantly make probes, every time one probe out you build a building or more depending on how much mineral you have, then you sent the probe to gather and the next one that comes out you repeat the process. Also another shortcut you could use is building you about two cannons at your entrance and use the same pylons for your starting gates. Once you have your first zelot send him out looking for your friend, when you find him just take your gathered zelots and rush him, this should take you about 2-3 minutes total for the zelot rush and if your really fast then defenitely two. With the zelots try not to go for the building right away but instead hit his drones.
With the probe rotation strategy you should have already gotten up to goons in no time, just make sure to harass your enemy with zelots every now and then. If the game goes up to two minutes then you should already have templar and dark templar. While the templar can be extremly useful in combination with goons using their psy storm abilities, and dt's can be useful for scouting and taking a good chunk out of the enemies forces when they're attacking.
Reavers I often find useful when they are being droped from shuttles, try to do a distraction at first and drop the reavers behind your enemies defenses. Again the key to killing zerg fast is to either go for the minerals or the upgrade buildings, hatcheries can easily be replaced but in a strong attack the destruction of a upgrade building will dissallow the production of that unit until that building is rebuilt. Oh and once you have arbiter you can just forget about the shuttles and drop in the reavers along with other units.
And apoc was just the name of my a clan I was in, in starcraft which reminds me I should really get a name change for Warboards.

well one thing you could do is if you know hes building up sunkens then just tech to dark temps and use them to eliminate them...
and if he uses his ovies as scouts just bring in some goons or sairs or whatever...

i dont think it's a lack of men that's killing me. i do a double hall rush to help with the extra income on fastest type maps. my build order is excellent and i'm a decent player. i'm not some n00b despit the fact that i appear one when i write on these forums.

i can do that, but i was hoping of a way to kill sunkens earlier in the game. thanx though!

Well then if you can't kill the sunkens run past them and go for his minerals.

Mind control his drones right before they morph into a creep colony.

Toss vs Zerg perhaps?
:D
0laf, maybe you can post a replay. That usually helps to see where it went wrong.
