I don't really mind, as long as it's a good one. My preferences oscillate as an as of yet unknown function of time. =P

Sci-Fi all the way, mostly 'cause the characters have really cool guns and stuff, also because there is usaually some interplanetary war that destroys a bunch of stuff with big explosions

I love fantasy, but by fantasy I don't just mean LOTR, I mean anything not taking place in reality (and this oftentimes includes sci-fi. For example, I consider Solaris as much fantasy as it is sci-fi). My favorite fantasy film would have to be The City Of Lost Children, which features a migraine prone talking brain in a fishtank, a bunch of clones, a mad scientist who cannot dream, along with a whole bunch of other weird stuff. IMO the whole purpose of movies is to give you those experiences which are not possible in real life, and that is just what fantasy films do.
My second favorite genre would probably be romance, when done right. A romance film done right deeply explores the personalities of two characters and manages to be happy and uplifting, as opposed to most of the depressing, cynical films that Hollywood likes to put out. Some of the few romance films done right are Before Sunrise, Moulin Rouge, and Show Me Love.

Eh... I voted for the last option. Only later I saw the 1st post...
I usually prefer good movies... that go from Sci-Fi to Action/Adventure passing through comedies. Horror usually doesn't make my day... *Ugh* come on, I'm eclectic but not that much.

I was too torn between Sci-fi, fantasy, and Anime. Of course, I don't like ALL anime, but i like some. So Sci-fi and Fantasy. Action and adventure i like too, but not if the basis is just some "bad ass guy lookin for revenge" or some crap. That one movie "get carter" with Stalone I did'nt even give a second thought too. At first i was very against Kill Bill because i just thought "oh great, another 'I want revenge, Im gonna kill you' Type" The first one met these expectations, but i strangly liked it. The second one was same as the first but with less sensless blood-spill.

Science fiction definitely. Mostly because I was always enamored by science and technology.

Gogo action films. I also like films set in beautiful places, I could care less what type of movie it is.

I've been really into Anime lately. Everything about it grips me, and every standalone movie I've watched by Miyazaki has been absolutely beautiful.
So anime for now :).

I love most genres, except horror films, and as long as they are not an attempt to obtain millions of dollars everything is fine... i don't know the term in english, but in spanish is "cine de arte" (art cinema?) and basically they are excellent films, with excellent plots, with no enormous budget. Truly original movies. I like those...But then again, I'm not a person that watches films all the time.

"Art Cinema" is pretty much right, we call 'em Art Films in the states, although the name is a general one referring to anything without a wide release. This would include independent films, foreign films, and non-mainstream films.
Unfortunately, the name tends to carry a pretty negative connotation of being artsy and inaccessible to the modern viewer, which is a shame, since they tend to be where the great films are and they are just as audience friendly as regular films are. Most "Art Films" would do very well if they were given a wide release. Memento is an art flick that's received widespread audience love. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is another one. Donnie Darko is yet another hugely popular art flick. Nonetheless, most of the really great ones rake in hardly any money. Sigh, why must people fear t3h art houses?

I chose drama/romance. Not that I like the generic crap that usually is grouped under romance. I prefer a well developed movie that has some sort of meaning other than the usual objective of making $50 million the opening weekend and lose all following soon thereafter because no one wants to see it twice. Perhaps it isn't so much that I like dramatic films better than other genres; I believe that most good films from any genre will use dramatic devices in a way that creates a memorable and enjoyable experience.
The problem I see is that not very many recent movies have that lasting quality and wide appeal the opening weekend buzz portrays.
My latest fix is Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, and that doesn't really fit any of the genres on the poll. Also, while anime is often considered a seperate genre, it is in essence only a medium of expression and the genre is determined by what the film is about. Of course, there is the stereotypical Japanese anime of violence, sex, and robots, but animation itself is widely popular for various genres.

Horror would be my favorite from the list, but the films I really like are "thrillers". They don't have to be gory or have zombies to scare the shit out of you ;) and I like that. I've seen a couple of indy/art films recently and I really like them, I plan to see more in the future.

I like fantasy (LotR) and recently I found out that Star Wars is classified under Fantasy and not Sci-Fi, so that changes my vote completely.

I like fantasy (LotR) and recently I found out that Star Wars is classified under Fantasy and not Sci-Fi, so that changes my vote completely. I always thought that starwars was sci-fi...it seems more a sci-fi to me. There's space ships and things that are high=tech

I think of Star Wars as fantasy, I mean although plenty of sci-fi flicks have had space ships, aliens, and psychic powers, I think Star Wars just takes them all out to a degree that's more fantasy than sci-fi. Sci-fi, I think, usually makes educated guesses about what technology and science are capable of and what they will evolve into. Much of Star Wars just seems so out there that I think we can reasonably say most of it could never exist.
I mean look at Jabba the Hut. How could evolution possibly produce a creature like that?
(lol, I used "I think" in almost every line of my first paragraph. Cogito Ergo Sum baby)

I just watched saw, and its awesome! Everyone should at least rent it ;)
Sci-Fi. I just wish there were more good sci-fi movies! There are a lot of terrible ones. Action and Comedy are the runner-ups for me.

I just watched saw, and its awesome! Everyone should at least rent it ;) Except us that dislike horror. That's strange, cause I saw Manhunt (game) and thought itwas HILARIOUS! (Squiggly wiggly whicthetty man stole my shoes...)
Horror/Comedy is the best one, no doubt.
I like a good sci-fi but comedies are really god to.
