View Full Version : FBI adds to wiretap wishlist...

A far-reaching proposal from the FBI, made public Friday, would require all broadband Internet providers, including cable modem and DSL companies, to rewire their networks to support easy wiretapping by police.

Because the eavesdropping scheme has the support of the Bush administration, the FCC is expected to take it very seriously. Last month, FCC Chairman Michael Powell stressed that "law enforcement access to IP-enabled communications is essential" and that police must have "access to communications infrastructure they need to protect our nation."

(Click here (http://news.com.com/2100-1028_3-5172948.html?tag=nefd_top) for full article).

Yay the FBI now wants to watch what you do online as well, this means that all the companies would have to change their stuff to support the demands if it's accepted. This means that even Xbox Live would h be tapped.

Go go Canada :) (wait...can they tap Canada's stuff? :\)

They can't touch us legally, as far as I know, so go go Canada!

As if they want to tap everything that people do on the intran. They'll never get the proposal passed. And even if they did, can you imagine the trillions of gigabytes of records they'd have to sort through? They'd have to have a few hundred mighty powerful computers :P.

The FBI already taps people's internet. They do it through your ISP's. I wish I could remeber the name of what they use, but basically (when they want to, this is not an all-the-time thing), they hook up this thing to an ISP and it filters through EVERYTHING (that's a lot of shit) that comes in or out, looking for things like specific keywords, etc.

Duddits laughes. Well Duddits likes Bush (in a non-homosexual way), and therefore-- he should be the governor of Ohio.

Duddits wonder, what the bloody hell did he just say?

Duddits shalt kiss no ass today, nor the day after unless it is his girlfriends. There is a distinct possibility that ass kissing will happen tomarrow, as Duddits is going over to her house. As for what else might happen there, Duddits will not say but encourages others to use their imaginations.

You've never seen any old cartoons where the character runs away and carries a stick with a cloth item tied around the end to form a bag holding thier belongings?

:), plenty of room up here. May I recommend heading to British Columbia? Victoria is beautiful, and the small towns in the mountains are so groovy :).

Very good suggestion, went out there last summer on a trip. When you come back to Ontario after being there all you can think is "flat". It's so nice and unboring out west, and it's beautiful, not that much smog, or major factories or anything to screw it up. And the lakes, gawd, they are angellic, wish I could show you a pic of them, they're like such a crystal blue.

Ahh, I heart Canada :).

Duddits heard a rumor that trout were the national animal of Canada. This isn't true is it? (Duddits is honestly curious)

Trout!? Where the heck have you been!? A trout isn't even a mammal! It has no FEEEEELLLIIINNNGGS.

As far as I know, we look at the beaver with great reverence, and consider it our national animal. A bit more information on this:

Travel back a few hundred years, settlers were just moving into this rockin' new continent, and were looking for some quick cash. At the time, people considered beaver fur, and beaver hats major bling bling, so they spent gross amounts of money on beaver pelts. It just so happened that Canada had a ridiculously large populace of beaver. So, the Courieurs de Bois often traded with the natives for their beaver pelts. What with a few hundred years going by, the Hudson Bay company was formed, and Canada made a substantial amount of money off of this one animal alone.

GG beaver, GG.

Ya know... Duddits read about the first sentance of that historical post before his eyes kinda glazed over. Kinda tells you how much Duddits likes history, eh?

Duddits doesn't know where he actually heard that rumour. Duddits thought it was kinda strang.

Hmm, perhaps I should rephrase this:

We hold the beaver, THE ANIMAL, with great reverence. Hahaha ;).

I think this is a good thing, in some ways. It will only help to crack down on child pornography and other illegal activities going on online.

Honestly though, if you're doing nothing that breaks the law, why do you care?

A person should be free to express the full extent of their fury towards government officials online, or it will just build up into an unfocused rage that takes out a shopping mall or something.
