View Full Version : PS2 Airport Security

Ever since September 11 countries have been stepping up security. But what are they really doing?
My friend keeps all his personal items hidden inside his PS2 (in the expansion compartment), photos, spare cash and some old pocket knife. He flew up from Melbourne to move to brisbane. His luggage was checked and so was the PS2, they found nothing wrong. He kept his PS2 in the overhead compartment because it was valuable. A couple of weeks later he realised what he'd done. He managed to sneak a pocket knife onto an airplane unknown to him!
Can you imagine this. The posibilities this could present, September 11 all over again.
This leads me to think; what are our governments actually doing?

The post-9/11 upgrades in airport security are a "feel good" measure. I don't think anyone seriously believes that the new screening process is 100% reliable. It might deter some borderline would-be troublemakers, but I don't think it could stop anyone who wants to do serious damage. And it has a ton of gaps and loopholes, as you've noticed.
That's not to say that air travel isn't safe. It has a better safety record than just about any other mode of transportation. By chances of death or serious injury, it's orders of magnitude safer than driving for a long distance.
Nothing can be made totally safe. Air travel is about as secure as it gets, really...

I used to work at a Airport, the loopholes are everywhere. However i do live in canada and the security features are much less I presume than the states.

Like my nice quote? That idea of filling the expansion bay with plastique is quite scary, actually.
