They all have their ups and downs.

This is going to turn into a stupid and pointless argument.

NES (or Famicom, depending on which market you are from). Seriously. What other system had such a large variety of games that were easy to learn, addictive to play, and often diffictult to master? Two dimensions is much simpler than three, and allows the player to focus more on the gameplay itself than keeping the camera in the right place or seeing that enemy that was around the corner.

It just seems like so many games recently are expected to do well based solely on how they look. I'd much rather play a good NES game than a hundred gorgeous PS2, Xbox, or GCN games with no real substance.

It just seems like so many games recently are expected to do well based solely on how they look. I'd much rather play a good NES game than a hundred gorgeous PS2, Xbox, or GCN games with no real substance. I'm with you on this one. Lots of NES games weren't that great, but those that were... those were the real games. Those games took skill, and were certainly fun to play. Not to mention, they were probably much more addicting that many of today's games. And besides, many of them started legacies. Like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Mario, Zelda, etc.

In these old NES games, you could brag to your friends about how you got to world 5. Every game that comes out today, practically everyone has the skills necessary to beat the campaign, it's just only a matter of time to play through. With those NES games, you had to know exactly when to run, jump, and duck to avoid incoming enemies and obstacles. You needed to learn the weaknesses of each boss and get your jumping and aiming perfect. Not to mention that in most NES games you died from a single hit. I'd say some NES games needed more skills then the games of today.

Of course, most of us were still pretty young when we played those games, but they were still pure joy to play.

So ur saying ud rather play a 1 player like 12 bit game rather than a 8v8 Halo 2 round??? Isn't the NES only a 16 color platform?

Maybe these games aren't super fun by today's standards, where most games only shine if it has good multiplayer. And not all NES games were single player. Some even had co-op modes.

I just remembered something. You know that game Airfox that's in the Arcade? That game is pathetically easy. And it's so slow... a real snoozer. NES anyone? Sky Shark? 1943? Those games were awesome. Fast paced, cool weapon upgrades, and never-ending hordes of enemies. In Sky Shark, there were places in the game that you could die 4 times just trying to get past one small obstacle. You never get bored because you're spending every second evading streams of incoming bullets and planes while trying to blast your targets. I remember when I got to the final boss, in level 5 of Sky Shark so many years ago... I only got there once, and I never realized the weak spot, so I died. Too bad my brother snapped the game in half (the game liked to crash after completing the first level, and he got mad).

To me, there is no single best. there are two who top systems to me: PS2 and Xbox. Why? PS2 has MGS3, and Xbox has Halo 2.

Of course, this is MY opinion, and sticking with it. now let's hear other people's opinions, without aruging.

Of all time definanatly The NES for the reasons posted, try megaman 1 vs megaman x8 sure the graphics arent as pretty but megaman 1 is so much harded.

but of the newgen systems(AKA Gamecube xbox Playstation 2)

Well gamecube is out of the question nothing you can do but play games and while it has a few awesome titles, it fails in comparison as far as hardware goes to the XboX and the Ps2

Ps2--Pros
DVd compatible without a remote
plays your old ps1 titles
same exact controls as your old ps1, and old ps1 controllers work also( only the analog ones though)
Free online play for most games
plays cd and burned cds

Ps2--Cons
Requirs a memory card
slower load times
must buy harddrive which only works for FFXI

Xbox pros--
Faster load times
don't need a memory card to save
can save music on harddrive

Xbox cons--
Proven fact that if to much space is taken up load times will increase and player will experience more slowdowns(can be fixed by purchasing memory card)
Must pay for ALL online games
Remote is required for DVD play

The controller layout is nice for both systems but the Gamecube fails in comparison to either due to small size.

However for younger users I recommend the GC all the way due to most(NOT ALL) games being aimed at younger users.

as for xbox or ps2 I recommend the ps2 because it can save you a few dollars if you are planning to play online and you won't need to purchase a remote.

Not always, but I don't need 15 friends in one place to play an 8-bit NES game. =D

[quot]Well gamecube is out of the question nothing you can do but play games and while it has a few awesome titles, it fails in comparison as far as hardware goes to the XboX and the Ps2[/quote]

Unless you actually look at the specs...I know them off the top of my head (or at least think I do), but I'll try to verify this later. I don't know what video cards they use, but I do know how rich their texture capabilities are.

Xbox:
733 Mhz processor (top of the three)
4 Textures per pixel per pass (using an nVidia card I believe)

PS2:
300 Mhz processor
1 Textures per pixel per pass

GCN:
450 Mhz processor
8 Textures per pixel per pass (best of the three; using an ATI card)

So, theoretically, the GCN could pump out graphics better than the other two, while the Xbox dominates as far as games with that require much processor power (being just about anything recent). The PS2 has a major advantage because developers have worked with it and know how to get every bit of power out of it they can. Add backwards compatability and the PS2 shreds the competitors. That doesn't mean it's a more powerful system, in fact it is the weakest; but it is the most popular and popular systems get the games.

Screw the new systems :(

SNES all the way.

Though personally buying a console for one or two games (Halo) when they come out on PC eventually is fucking stupid. If you have the $300 to buy all that (150 for Xbox, 50 for Halo 2, whatever for Halo, extra controllers, etc...) then have fun.

In the mean time I will be enjoying my old PSX games, along with the newer games, and enjoying DVDs.

Though for the life of me I cant figure out Xbox fanatics. Halo 2 is ONE GAME. One game doesnt make the console :(

Oh and the GCN is cool to. Its small and portable, on top of that, the controller is really nice once you "learn" it. Though thats more me and my big hands then anything -- other controllers just feel small sometimes.

Though if you want to get technical... the PC is the best becuase it can emulate the other systems :)

Super NES was pretty damn awesome. It certainly revolutionized gaming. I mean we wouldnt have our Xbox or our PS2 or GameCube w/o it. And supermariobros. was and maybe is the greatest gift from god. Yeah HALO is pretty cool and so are other new games, but I think we should just look bavk now upon our savior, the SNES... We wouldnt be where we are now if we were without it...

(I think the overall depends on the situation and economics... Xbnox pwons for patrties, comp owns for internet, PS2 for singleplayer, and SNES for good times...)

Plz feel free to respond to my message and add your opinion, I may be wrong.
Sincerely,

So, theoretically, the GCN could pump out graphics better than the other two... How is an ATI card(which is an ATI Flipper)better than an nVidia(the Xbox has an nVidia NVA2)? Forgive my ignorance, but I was under the impression nVidia sold the better cards of the two, if you were willing to pay the money.

From a technical standpoint, 8 textures per pass is twice as detailed as 4 textures per pass. That doesn't mean that ATI makes superior hardware per se, it means the ATI card on a GCN can produce more detailed textures than the nVidia card on the Xbox, thus it has the potential to support better graphics.

Of course, I could just have my numbers wrong...but I don't believe I do.

Never has anyone ever been able to say that nvidia is better than ATI or vice versa. These companies each make many different cards for a variety of different purposes, performance levels, and prices. What happens is that magazines and things take the top-performing card from each company, and the one with the best benchmarks receives a lot of press. Then other people proceed to determine that the company with the top card makes all the best cards. Which is not true. A different card by a different manufacturer may perform better than a comparable card even if that manufacturer did not receive top marks for it's premier card.

PC isnt as great because systems like xbox and ps2 have games that are built to run smoothly on them, there is no guarantee that your computer will have the capabilities to run with the newest game, which is designed to run on the newest computer, if your system is obsolete then your in trouble, Halo has given xbox an all time place in video game history, Halo 2 has confirmed that, that is truly a god among games, and id take Halo2 on xbox over all other games on PC

But if a game requires more power than the Xbox can provide, you must settle for an inferior game experience (or if it is reserved for the second generation Xbox, you must pay an additional $150-$200 for the new system). In contrast, you might only need to upgrade one part of your computer to play a new game at the maximum settings.

Let's take my computer for example, I blow the system requirments for Doom 3 out of the water on everything save RAM. Since I have too little memory, many newer games such as Doom 3, Half-Life 2, or WoW would run incredibly slow. However I could remedy this problem for $50 or less by buying another memory stick.

So for a small upgrade price, a computer user can get the performance from a game that only a new generation of consoles could create. I'd much rather pay $50-$100 on computer parts than $200 on a new console.

As many have said: PC > all

But if its console wise, the ps2 is my favorite. I like the controllers better than the others... (yes, including the stupid lil gc controllers :P), and the ps2 has awesome games. +++ the new lil ones are l33t, small and stuff.

Now... the XBox does have a couple good games (halo and halo2), but as all non-idiots know when it comes to FPSs:
mouse > controller

As for gc... i hate the controllers, and most of its games are geared towards children... yay...

Oh, and don't give me that "ps2's graphics are teh suxXorz!" ... it was the pioneer, the first of the 3 major systems, and gc and Xbox had 2 (3-4 maybe?) years (too lazy to check up on the actually time right now) to make theirs better...

Pioneer in what way? If you mean pioneer in the Present-Gen consoles, then that award would go the dreamcast, since it was the first of the consoles to feature a lot of things that makes the XBox and PS2 what they(i.e. online gaming). If you meant something else, then disregard this post.
