Signature Images.

I want a compelling argument why I should keep these.
I -hate- loading a thread and having my browser sit there and show me the number of signature images hosted at horrible free hosting locations that refuse to load or some such thing.

Either:

1) no one gets signature images whatsoever. avatars are plenty anyhow.
2) neo or some other sets up a WB specific sig image hosting center.
3) you all learn how to use a proper image host.

or

4) i kill you all.
and then disable signature images.

your choice.

I like the signatures..and reckon they should stay...
Apart from many of them looking great, it gives a lot of us to tinker with photoshop (or whtever) and try out new creative ideas.
I mean it's a whole separate facet of the online community, involving people showing off signatures, making signatures for other people...learning new techniques on design (for many if not all anyhow).
Signatures bring about another level of interaction amongst the members and add to the personality of the member.

I can understand about the poor image hosts and all that, but signatures shouldn't be done away with completely.
We already have guildelines that limit the size of the sigs.
And in addition to that why don't we follow choice no.2 or no.3

I agree with TNE. Sig design is a big deal for a lot of people, and getting to show them off is lots of fun :)

I vote number 2 or (!!!Bright Idea!!!) Someone uses the option to show signatures (under the area where it says) Visible Post Elements You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts. Show Signatures (<---This One!)

The_Maker's sig is a prime example of what AJ's talking about though. The other sigs in this thread seem okay, and load fine, but yours doesn't load and kills my page...

I tend to find that signature images just make me have to scroll twice as far to read a page of thread.

They do add a bit of colour, but I wonder if having no signatures would give threads a "cleaner" feel.

I'm really impartial whether we keep them or not, to be honest.

I was figuring that we could be a little more stricter on the file size limits on the signatures like we were when we first started, but I have no qualms about it if no one else does.

I like the sigs and so I vote 2
and as for proper imag hosters, I use kupatrix so i don't know if that is a proper one or not but I use it for all my sighosting needs.

If you don't like signatures, just go to your UserCP, then options and uncheck the box that says signatures. Then you won't view them anymore.

As an idea, why not allow each user to... *errm* use it's images (siggy, avatar) from within the space anyone is allowed to upload into the site? A separate part of it (uploading space, that is). Just a thought, though. :)

I never really had one anyways. You could make the avatars smaller as well. More focus on the actual content of posts, I like it :)

Maybe if you had enough bandwidth.... Allow people to upload sigs here and use it as their sig. This would be set so that you cant hotlink it and use it outside of WB

Well enough groveling, I realize that many of you do not see the point in having signatures, but what about the artists who designed the signatures do they not deserve to have their works displayed. Also a signature might be a way of finding out a little more about your fellow posters, for example my favorite color is blue and I have a siggy thats a flaming blue sword.

I don't see the problem with signatures. If it is loading times, you can disable signatures. Signatures are cool. I got my photoshop just to make signatures.

Well, I have yet to get a permanent signiture picture, :(, But I like having the smaller, individual images that I already have.

ive visited forums that didnt have sig images and they are just so bland. id say that i dont go back to 60% just becuase of that. i think that there would be a decline in participation and the new memberships would decrease. i can host sigs on my angelfire account if people want to use it. by the way what happened to the mac style? im not a mac user but i rather liked it. i say u just use the imageless style AJ that way u wont have to worry about sigs at all. and take a valume while your at it.
