Ok, according to this link, we're gonna have some serious fire-power on our hands soon.

Whoa! Awsome! I knew about the elctro-magnetic armor, but not beam weapondry! I want some!

I know, imagine your sitting in a tank and BAM, your dead.
Just imagine if we mount these things on staellites and such ;o.

Thats all cool and everything (Not to mention deadly) but I doubt any of that will protect against a nuclear bombing.

Oh whee... more ways for us to kill each other.

Just to say.. most of humanities technology has come out of sci-fi... computers/lasers/cars/robots ect.

I knew it was coming.. it was only a mater of time and immagination.

im not too sure about simple electric weapons, using the power for lasers or suchlike is fine, but a simple huge electrical discharge would be useless against an earthed target.

although lasers < shiny armour.

but electromagnetic shielding would be nice.

for weaponry id prefer a simple railgun (okay, not that simple but...)
or put all that power into plasma type things

nothing can stand up to a plasma discharge.....except maybe well, electromagnetic fields.

Oh whee... lasers... I can see that scene from Goldfinger now... or that one with the bunch of lasers in Die Another Day...

Sort of like the gun on the back of the warthog. Nice...

which is a railgun.

But Khalil's team isn't stopping there. His team is also developing electro-magnetic armor capable of stopping not only other pulsed weapons but conventional weapons.

Warfare of the future:

US Marines are entering a hostile zone, they switch on their electro-magnetic armor and comfortable walk through the swarm of bullets from hostile targets. As the Marines raise their pulse rifles to fire, the enemies switch on their electro-magnetic armor, and we have two armies shooting at each other pointlessly. Eventually, one side's power goes out slightly before the other, and the ensuing massacre is interupted when the other side loses power and we have two unarmored forces fighting on open ground. Like Napoleonic warfare...only dumber.

oe we enter another arms race whereby the nation with the more powerful batteries rules the world

as opposed to the nation with the most guns. so i cant really see much of a difference

until fusion power is developed, whereupon power never runs out.........a problem here methinks

When people invent fusion its going to be hell. One country will get it (Japan or China) and will use it against everyone else. Mark my words.

I would rather have something like this. http://www.matrix-se.com/pix/pictures/mx.main.uppstick.mech4.gif

I'm not sure about the rest of the US, but in Hawaii they are going to get the police some new sort of gun that fires something that basically stuns the target and causes extreme pain for a short time. SOURCE: It was on the local news twice a while back. They showed the gun being demonstrated on a few volunteer officers - basically it looked prety much like a plasma ish gun that stunned them and made them fall over.

I got to get me one of those. I'll be back. I going to head to ebay for a sec. :D

Unless I am mistaken, you refer to a taser. It shoots two prongs into the target and then conducts high voltages of electricity into the target via the wires from the handheld unit to the two prongs. This induces considerable pain and muscle convulsions that debilitate most targets. They have a small fatality rate, but you must admit that your chances of survival are greater against a taser than a gun.

Or I could be thinking of something else, but that is what a few of the police forces around here have.

No. It looks like a gun with a taser being shot out of it. Also with needles. Lots of needles. Many many needles.

hah, its so expensive to research just about everyone (inc japan i think) is funding a single project....except the yanks pulled out saying it was too expensive.

£6 billion?, pfah. and the only country to pull out was the one with the most money.......looks like you guys are getting fusion power some time later than us :P

so anyway, it wont be one country that gets it all first

They should invent real lightsabers. That would rule.

singo
01-30-2005, 7:27 AM
hah, lightsabers LOOK cool - but vs machineguns they are not gonna cut it.

you need the reflexes of something with very fast reflexes indeed to use one

although they make a nice noise.

They're only unarmored if the electro-magnetic armour isn't very durable when not on. >_>

Also, they'll probably develope some kind of grenade or bomb that disables the electro-magnetic armour. Or something like that. >_>

Just the other day our school police guy showed us his stun gun, it was sweet. There are to needles with barbs connected to the end box thing, and the lil line things that trail back to bring the heat on. its pretty much the same as the picture, but there was a box thing that shot out as well.... then the officer showed us that it had a second clip in the bottom of the grip, and that when you used all the ammo, it would should energy between the two sides so it could be used as a melee stunner ^_^
