Does anyone ever Charm enemy workers and use them to start a new Tech Tree? Not necessarily for the win, but for fun.

Ah, this reminds me of the grand old days of Starcraft. BW's new Dark Archon had all my friends hypnotized with their ability to Mind Control enemy workers to get the techs, and this is a very similar situation. Exept that in WC3, it would be a stupid idea to Charm enenmy workers, but it would be fun. I'll explain why:
1: In Starcraft, the game used a different food supply for the newly-controlled race. I heard in WC3 that you are forced to use the same supply for both races, which is very inefficient, as by the time you have a lvl6 Dark Ranger to Charm units with, you have a ton of supply already used, and had to have gained the experience in battle, so you already had an army. And in the midst of a battle, it would be much more efficient to use the Charm on an enemy unit that could be much more useful during the battle (Tauren, DotC, etc.).
2: By the time you have a lvl6 DR, you should at least be at tier 3, which would mean it would take a ton of time to get your new race up to tier 3 and ready for the current game your in.
3: It would take a lot of effort to sneak into an enemy base just to Charm an innocent Peasant or Peon. You'd need a Goblin Zeppelin and your DR ready at level 6, Charm-ready, which would most likely take place after a battle. That might take some time to do.
Well, I've taken most of these opinions from the WC3 game of my profession (1v1), but I could see the use in FFA or 3v3 and 4v4. I'm not sure about battle strats using Charm in those games, but Charming an innocent Peon in one of those games may be useful.

Absolutely correct. This is one of the stupider things Blizzard did in Warcraft. Had they made a separate supply for the new tech tree (100 is sparse enough), I'm sure we'd be seeing more of this Charming.
Ah, but for the Dark Archon days...
Wow if they actually HAD done that..... Think of the power....... a full group of tauren/shaman(w/ lust) and a full group of lusted chimeras...... can u say complete death.... well bfore you got the group of chims up you most likely would have had the game won or lost... but wouldnt it be SO fun!\

Use Map Settings... Yah charming isnt realy efficient cause you have to share the food cap. I agree with that using it in the midst of battle is more effective on a expensive unit.

Pros
1. Imagine lusted+frenzied taurens with vamp aura.
2. More versatility
3. Erases racial weaknesses
Cons
1. Need a level 6 Dark Ranger or Master Training Banshee
2. Need lots of resources to support two tech trees.
3. Shares food
4. TAKES A LONG TIME TO TECH.
Its not worth it. But it is insanely fun.
Maybe someone (with enough time on their hands) could set up a game where one guy lets the other guy Charm the workers, then see how it works out in a real game. I would be glad to try it, but I'm busy this weekend so I couldn't do it then.

It would be kinda entertaining to charm an Orc Peon and then just build a Great Hall and a War Mill just so you can build watch towers for added defense (with their 800 range and shortest cooldown) and for a better support in offensive tactics like offensive towering. But mother then that, it really isn't worth the effort.
Yea but that would end up costing a shitload of gold, DC.
