Man Im getting fustrated. I extracted stardat.mpq to my editing folder, Just to test it, I made no modifications and went to save over it. When its done overwritting the stardat.mpq it says WinMPQ has created an illegal error or some crap that like and needs to shut down. I shut it down and reopen the stardat file and it has everything up to sounds. Its missing templates, units, tileset and trigger. Whats wrong?

It takes a lot to compiling all those files again and the program basically crashed due to the lack of memory. Anyway, you should never save over the original StarDat.mpq, BrooDat.mpq, or the Patch_rt.mpq because that is what SC needs to run with. To make mod changes you are supposed to make a new MPQ and load it through MPQDraft.

You'll need to reinstall Starcraft if you want to fix your problem too.

Not true, I figured out that the unknows were making it crash, So I just added them in later. And it doesn't matter if you save over it. You just need a back up mpq. ^^ Plus I would rather just click on starcraft.exe then go through mpq draft.

Nope, The unknowns are because WinMPQ can't display the files without a filelist. try UED77s Filelist, get it from sc.org

I already have it. It just has about 5 or 6 unknowns

Yes, even if you do have the filelist, always a couple files at the beggining of stardat.mpq are unknowns, I wonder what those files are..

I have a feeling they are the things that are not unknown when you don't have the listfile

If u extracted the StarDat.mpq, broodat.mpq, or the path_rt.mpq into another place, S.C. well have a hard time finding the files. Make sure you COPY and Past it into ure Folder than just moving it somewhere else. And dont edite the original files too.

Always Edit, move, or deleat the copy.

All the files in the StarDat.mpq have been figured out already. Only four have an unknown filename, but those four are already known to be portraits.

o awsome, i just read Stealthy Deaths Post and i saw that 3 of them are smacker files! unknown_00000a9b is like a Uraj Crystal, so as the unknown_000007fc, and the unknown_000001cf is the STATIC portrait.

You can usually tell if they are portraits or not. If the Ratio is 0% then it is mostly likely a .smk.
