"When I look at the ads and I see Bush speaking over the pictures of Ground Zero, I know in my heart that President Bush failed the 3,000 Americans that died there on that day,"
Patty Casazza, whose husband died in the attacks.

"Bush is calling on the biggest disaster in our country's history, and indeed in the history of the fire service, to win sympathy for his campaign,"
-Harold Schaitberger, general president of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

"George Bush has lost credibility with the American people,"
-John Kerry, Democrat Presidential Candidate

Hrmm, nobody said a word when John Kerry used Vietnam as a political tool. If I recall correctly, and I do, we had over 50,000 deaths in Vietnam.

50,000 divided by 3000, ........ ahhh yes, that would be 16 times the amount of deaths than the world trade center. Yet where are the Vietnam War vets? Why aren't they complaining that Kerry is using them as a political stepping stone?

Politics is dirty, and smutty, and yes, I disagree with the tactics used by GWB, but then again I disagree with most political campaign ads, so why is this one different?

Fact is, it's not.

All the more reason to hate politics...

Then again, as nuts said, its just another crappy political campaign ad.

There is no doubt it's politics but he is parading 9/11 like he did something that no other president could do...

I've seen the ad, he's not parading anything.

The voice over states that "America has been through a lot." Then it proceeds to show how America has prevailed, and then claims that Bush will help to continue our way of life.

There's no reason to make it out to be something it's not.

Yeah, I haven't seen it, but we had some discussion in gov class. No limits, Anyone can use it in their on benefit, it's gonna be distasteful for many voters.

I think you've got the wrong ad Nuts. :p The ad in question is located at http://www.c-span.org/vote2004/campads.asp. It's the third ad in the Pres. George W. Bush section.
Or this link [MIGHT NOT WORK]: rtsp://video.c-span.org/project/c04/c04030304_bushad2.rm

It's the coffin that makes people dislike this ad. It seems to them that Bush basically takes advantage of the tragedy and death to support his claim for President.

I think that the ad is fine. There is no need to say that he's exploiting anyone....of course, as our gov teacher said, we can't really make the decision of what he should do...we were not firefighters who lost their friends on that day.

Still, as long as most people find it ok, it's fine - the voiceover just says 'America has been through a lot' and well, it has been through a lot... He's trying to advertise the fact that we haven't fallen apart after the devastating attack.

The reason I think the Vietnam reference is glazed over and the 9/11 reference attacked is that there was no snowball effect of aggression after 'Nam as far as I know.

I for one am sick and tired of any and all references to 9/11. I mean, sure it's bad, but bringing it up so much as a reason for so many things that Bush has done is appalling to me. The exploitation is debatable, but the overreference of 9/11 is blatant.

It's also the Flag in front of WTC shrapnel that is disliked, Fengy, though I agree that the coffin is the worser of the two.
