You need Firefox to do this. Another reason to switch! xD
In addition, this will not work with dial-up connections. Sorry guys.
Directions:
Open Firefox.
In the address bar, type in about:config and press enter.
Scroll down to the option network.http.max-connections, and do the following:
If you are using DSL or equivalent connection, change the settings as follows. Those of you with faster connections may increase the values a bit for even faster speeds.
network.http.max-connections: 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 24
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 12
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 6
network.http.pipelining: true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 16
network.http.proxy.pipelining: true
Don't let network.http.pipelining.maxrequests get too high or else you may hammer some servers, not a good thing to do.
The current settings I use are (Comcast 3Mbit connection; I'm getting about 2.8 Mbit speeds):
network.http.max-connections: 96
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 48
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 24
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 12
network.http.pipelining: true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 16
network.http.proxy.pipelining: true
