View Full Version : Is this a good Protoss game plan?

I just wanted to know if this was a good way to play Protoss, because this is how I play.

- Mine Minerals and build 2 more probes
- Build Pylon
- Scout with 1 probe, while building 3 more probes
- (Pylon should be done by now) Build Gateway beside Pylon
- Start Building 2 Zealots
- (By now I should see where my enemy is and what race they're using)
- If Terran, build Cybernetics core and a Gateway. If Zerg or Protoss Build Forge.
- Build Pylon
- Build 2 more Zealots and a Photon Canon if Zerg or protoss, build an Assimilator if Terran.
- Attack after 3 Zealots are done if Zerg and send the last for reinforcements when done. Build Cybernetics core if Protoss. Make 4 Dragoons if Terran.

... Yet to be completed ...

So, what do you think so far? Is this a good way to start for a Protoss Player?

have you tried any of this cause it looks like you will be a little behind on mineral harvesting, and how do the minerals work out do you have to wait long before you have the minerals to build the next successive unit/building?

Yes, I have tested this, because this is the only way that I play, and I win 50% of the time. I usually do this, and then wait until after my first attack to really start my mineral harvesting. And no, all of this is basically one after the other, I get all this done in about 2-5 minutes.

It sucks.

Just what I need, a 12 year old post... Just tell me WHY it sucks so I can make it better.

...actually, it's only a few minutes old.

Anyway, there's many reasons why it sucks.
"- If Terran, build Cybernetics core and a Gateway. If Zerg or Protoss Build Forge.
- Build Pylon
- Build 2 more Zealots and a Photon Canon if Zerg or protoss, build an Assimilator if Terran."

What's the point of building the cy-core b4 the assimilator? Everything that has to do with the cy-core uses gas so by the time the cy-core is done you want to already be mining gas so you can immediately start making goons or tech to robo bay/observers/reavers.

When you say build 3 probes or 2 zealots do you mean that you queue them up in the building? If so, that too is wrong as it is a waste of money that could be spent on another gateway...then u could build 2 at the same time. Build 1 unit at a time to get the most out of your minerals.

There's no need to build a forge that early vs protoss, and the only reason you would do it vs zerg is if you plan on early expoing.

listen to chronic he knows what he speaks of
but why do you pylon on 6?

but why do you pylon on 6? Didn't even notice that...so chalk up another reason why it sucks. Build your first pylon on 8 supply because it provides the most income possible while constantly being able to have 1 probe building in the nexus. By the time the pylon finishes, your 9th probe will have just come out so you can continue probe production uninterrupted and you should have 150 minerals to build the 1st gateway while your 10th probe is in the process of building.

This is the best starting build order for Protoss. Building your first Pylon on 6 puts you at a resource disadvantage.

At the start of the game, do these steps (exactly):
» Queue a Probe
» Select all four probes and click on a mineral patch
» Holding [shift], click on a portrait to disselect a Probe
» Click on a different mineral patch
» Repeat until all four probes start on different mineral patches (this is called "cloning").
» Set your nexus rally point into the minerals, so new Probes automatically start moving towards them (you'll still have to select them and tell them to mine, but this is easy enough to do)

start:
keep on getting probe and when you reach 7/9, building 8th, get a probe out and build pylon,
then when 9/9 appear, the pylon is done build a gateway, then the probe goes scout
keep on getting probe, if
vs zerg:
when you see 12/18, get a 2nd gateway,
vs terran:
as soon as you get 100, get the gas thing, then the cyn core and dragoon
don't even bother zealot
vs protoss:
if the enemy is far, can either get gas to tech to dragoon or 2nd gateway to rush/harass with zealot
if enemy is close, just get 2nd gateway and see

*i think this is the most logical and efficent way to play protoss

8 pylon gives the best economic production. it doesnt matter if you can get a dragoon in 2 minutes if you dont have the economy to make reinforcements. you have to write a build thats accomplishes exactly what you want it to do, yet still have the economy to follow up on it. 6 pylon bad, 8 pylon good. 10 gate good, 12 gas good. from there depends what you want to do. i didnt see anything about what matchup this build is for, so its theroetically impossible to provide any real advice.

vs terran you just want to gate gas core pylon goon. very simple.

vs zerg youll want to gate gate zealot pylon zealot zealot, and go from there.

vs protoss, a 1gate zealot tech is the best. if you dont know what that is, you shouldnt be posting new amazing build orders here.

This message has been deleted by Schwitzer. Reason: Not appropriate. Go away.

Actually, it was appropriate. He asked, "So, what do you think so far? Is this a good way to start for a Protoss Player?" so I answered, "It sucks." That is what I think of his build order. He didn't ask for reasons why someone thinks what they do, or what could be improved about his build order. Although, later he did say, "Just tell me WHY it sucks so I can make it better," which is when I explained why it sucks. So if I would have went away as you suggested then I would have never had the chance to explain why it sucks.
