I am kinda curious as to weather people value their education over getting into the so called "real world" and working. Alright, maybe not the right wording I was looking for but anyways.

I have seen so many people drop out of school and take up a full time job, apprentaship or whatever and I have also seen others who change schools for the sake of benefiting their education.

I know I will finish grade 12 (hopefully without getting suspended yet again next year >.<) or at least that is the plan but I don't know what I will do after 2005. This is the first time I have really thought about it.

What are you planning on doing? Continuing with school and moving on to university/college/whatever or are you looking at getting a job/aprentaship/other.... Or are you waiting to see what opportunities present themselves? Why?

So this topic may have come up before, It would also be cool to know:

For those who have already dealt with this kind of decision, do you think it worked out for the best? Did you drop out of school, get a full time job, extend your study or what? Why? Any regrets?

Right now, I'm in college. I'm going to finish this year, and definately next semester, but I'm thinking about taking a year off to earn some money. If I don't do that, though, I'll continue my education.

I have thought about it and I do want to go to college but its complicated for me for a number of reason.
1.) I don't have the money
2.) Most scolarships probably wont apply to me for reasons I rather not discuss

So what I'm planning to do is either completely ace the SATs and if not that move to California when I'm 18 where I will have the my best opportunities at getting into college. In high school I've been takeing some buisness classes so If I do get into college I plan to continue them.

I want to continue my education after high school so I can go into things like Physics and Engineering and I'll also balance it out along the way with other activities (such as playing soccer, swimming, bike riding, drawing/painting, writing...) and also start playing an instrument possibly...the only one I know how to play really is the recorder and a bit on how to possision my fingers over the keys of a piano...plus I'm rusty on the recorder...-.-;;;

So I basically wanna go into physics+engineering while making drawings/paintings, playing music, writing books and doing physical activities on the side (like in free time). Also, during all of this, I wish to get into politics at one time or another. >_>

i am definately going to college, but college isnt for everyone. Dropping out of highschool is just dumb. After you graduate though you have to decide what's best for you. Some people are not made for schooling. Why spend thousands of dollars if you're the kind of person who will slack off and not pass your classes? College is a large responsibilty and you have to be ready to handle it. Spending at least 4 more years can boost your starting salary by a bundle, so it's a trade off. Are you going to work in college or fool around? if you arent going to work, then get a job because college will be a waste of money.

I've finished 3 years of university... its the best. Even if you do a shitty arts degree you can get soo much out of it.

After high school I plan to go to a good college or a University. And according to one of the school counselors the colleges here are some of the best in the country. (PM for more info)

I don't think I am going to be going to college. Most likely I will work somewhere or start up my own small buisiness or something. If I change my mind about college I will probably do the same exact thing my dad did and go for a semister and think i know more then the professor then drop out. haha. I'm deffinatly not a school type person.

I value education even though I don't like school.
I will be going to college in...err...four years?
Anyway, I'm going to be in college for a looooooooooooong time because there is a lot of crap that I want to do when I get out.
If this gets to complicated, my answer is in three words...part time job.

there are programs and degrees that can help you start your own business. plus some of your classmates there could become business partners. or at least be connections.

I agree that dropping out of high school is dumb, but some people already have plans. As you have said there is no point wasting money on an education if there is no benafit.

I just can't help thinking I screwed up somebodys career with my influence about them staying at school for another year or two.

I love my eduation too, but I can't say the same about the way it is achieved. As long as you don't work in the part time job with college I'm sure things will work out. Work + Education + Social Life = One of them is gonna take a beating. Well atleast thats the way it worked for me.

i KNOW i buggered up someones life by advising them to stay in school

you would think id have learned not to listen to myself by now.

advised myself to stay on and do physics cham and maths to try and get good grades to get onto an engineering course (ang general studies is compulsary)

BLAMMO!

one C, 2 E's and an "unclassified" at AS level (physics, chem general studies and maths, in that order ). and now i need to actually do the final A level exams.

well, im shafted - resitting most of my modules in the hope of not screwing up quite so badly meaning i dont have enough time to focus on what i should be doing

Next year I'll be heading to Waterloo for a 5 year co-op nanotechnology engineering program. After that I'll likely delve into a masters degree, then a doctorate.

Schooling has always been the #1 priority for me and I absolutely love learning. So I imagine I'll be somewhere over 30 years old before I'm even out of school :).

I'm going to University in Waterloo next year too but I am going for the big 5 year co-op program in Ecology and Environmental Biology. Crazy eh? It will be very exciting. I am more excited for the social aspect of the whole adventure. However, I am not planning to throw away over $16 000 per year.

Since I am doing co-op, I can make anywhere between $22 000 and $77 000. COOL EH?

I value education much higher than work. If I get it the way I want I'll probably never leave school. Screw money. Economy sucks. =P
