For all the woarboards members who live in the U.S., Happy Thanksgiving! And to all the other people who don't live in the U.S. too, although you all probably don't celebrate it.

I'm actually surprised I'm the first one creating a happpy thanksgiving thread... I had thought Geno or someone else would've beat me to it by the time i got up...

Yeah baby! Thanksgiving is upon us! Time to spend time with our families! :)

I get to hang out with some ppl from my church who don't have close family, so they come to my family's house and have Thanksgiving with us. It's pretty bomb :D I wish I could have gone with my dad for Thanksgiving as well (Cuz that's what we usually do, in the morning we'll have Thanksgiving with Dad and then in the evening I'll have Thanksgiving with my mom) But I could only pick one parent since it's too long of a drive and stuff, so I decided to stay with my mo
and step-dad and my little brother went with my dad since it's his Thanksgiving anywayz--But anywayz!

As of right now my mom went to go buy some more yeast for the bread we're baking and I decided to take a break from measuring all this flour and mixing yeast with molasses and whatever, lolz.

Like all American holidays, virtually every holiday has lost its origins and is mostly used by corporations to boost fundings. Example: the massive shopping season for Christmas. Thanksgiving seems to be left in the shadows. The only commercials on TV for Thanksgiving tend to come on less than a week before the day itself, unlike Christmas, where commercials start approximately 2 months before the actual day.

But anyway, on Thanksgiving, the food is good. The turkey, apple and pumpkin pies. Turkey sandwiches are the best. Sorry for all you vegetarians out there...

Nobody I know has too much idea about what/when it is.... What is the true meaning of thanksgiving and why do you celebrate it?

Anything you want to share?

Supposedly, Thanksgiving was started when the starving American colonists (or I guess they'd be British colonists. Whatever) were given a shitload of food by native Americans. They all had a great big feast and the colonists gave thanks to the native Americans for the yummy food. Thus, Thanksgiving has a theme of thankfulness and appreciating what has been done for you to make your life what it is today.

However, it has been slowly molded into a holiday of family values, (and by family values, I mean that value that states that the family is more important than anything else) where people are meant to get with their families, forgive and forget any conflicts, and act in a non-dysfunctional way. The theme of thankfulness seems pretty much forgotten.

Here's gmail's explenation:

A Gobble approach to email. In 1621, a few hundred Pilgrims and Native Americans sat down to celebrate a bountiful harvest. The feast lasted three days, and included fowl, venison, fish, berries, watercress, lobster, dried fruit, clams, and plums. There was no pumpkin pie, however. There was also an alarming lack of user-friendly webmail services.

Now, 383 years later, it's once again time to celebrate what has come to be known as Thanksgiving—a time to gather with family and friends and give thanks for all that we have. We have many things to be thankful for. But mostly, we are thankful for you—our users—who remind us of why we work so hard all year and why we love what we do. That's better than all the dried fruit and clams in the world.

Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for making our approach to email yours.

Gobble gobble,
The Gmail Team
