Is there some cool site that you guys know of that has instructions for making your own memory cards for PS2 or other consoles? I mean like you convert a super-large USB memory stick into one that works for your game, so you don't have to shell out the moola for the one you buy in the store, that doesn't hold as much data.

Seriously. Spend the 15 dollars on a mem card.

Unless you can fabricate your own microchips, you probably can't unless you find a kit online.

just buy one, they will be 60 times more reliable too, and that will save a ton of frustration when you are about to beat final fantasy when the makeshift memory card decides to explode :P

BMB must know from experience.

Learn a little from BMB: don't make memory cards from nitroglycerin.

AHA! I found what I was looking for. I knew that there would be some problems implementing such a device because Sony actually encrypts the data on the memcards using something called MagicGate. But this thing has found a way around it. It's basically an adapter. You first plug a normal PS2 card into it, and plug it into the controller. The adapter will d/l all the encryption software, and from here on out you can use any memory card that you may have, most commonly the "smart media card." So in effect, while you're paying $20 for an 8-16MB memcard from Sony, you could spend the same $20 on a digital camera memcard and get 64MB. Or $40 for 128MB!

But the catch is, I emailed the guy who makes them and he told me he no longer makes the adapters. :( Well at least we know it is possible!

Well yes. Lets go out and use something thats not supported by the console. Becuase unlike computers, you cant easily recover failed or corrupt saves.

Besides that, how much do you intend to save? I doubt saves will rarely even reach the 16mb-standard limit (it seems) on most cards.

If only here these were so cheap... here an 32 Mbs card costs 'bout 50 € (euros, the EU currency). :lame:
That's arount the same amount in US dollars, if u wanna know. ;)

Well you would be surprised. I have two PS2 memory cards and one is full and the other is at 3/4. I play a lot of games(RPG) and they tend to fill up when you like to collect every item like I do.

But thats neat. I never thought about making your own card or adapter. Its a shame he doesn't make them anymore.
