The first man ever to be convicted of spamming in the US (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/11/14/inside.spamming.ap/index.html)

Up to nine years in prison. But looks at this:

"But he earned $40 a pop, and the undertaking was so vast that Jaynes could still pull in $400,000 to $750,000 a month, while spending perhaps $50,000 on bandwidth and other overhead, McGuire said."

Holy shit. :o

Only a small step towards the right direction. Hopefully more spammers to come. I've had to change e-mail addyes a countless number of times. I finally wisened up, and haven't received junk mail in ages.

"When you're marketing to the world, there are enough idiots out there" who will be suckered in, McGuire said in an interview.

ffs, if people are actually gonna be that damned stupid then they deserve ripping off - i just despise the pop-up adverts......usually for pop-up blockers

man, i never thought i would finally have proof that millions of people are even more idiotic than me :D

I've had people shout on the phones "WHY CAN'T I SEND MORE THAN 1,000 EMAILS A DAY!!!" my response? "Because spammers are the only ones that do send more, and that is why we cut it at that point." oh that Reeeealy get's them pissed off :)

okay so i don't like junk mail but do we really need to clog a jail cell for nine years because of it? Why don't we spend his court time convicting rapists and murders? i dont understand our justice system. It is not the countries responsibility to protect the stupid people out there. if people are actually that dumb that man should be commended for suckering people in. Maybe he should become a lawyer.

if people are actually that dumb that man should be commended for suckering people in. Maybe he should become a lawyer.Should the same apply to good con men?

Oh Brain, you have such a romantic way with words. Are you asking me out?

Should the same apply to good con men?

It depends. Email scams are common knowledge. even if you dont know about them you shouldn't buy anything off the internet without some good background on what has happened to people or who you're buying things from. Junk mail is like an infomercial except they arent as much fun to read as infomercials are to watch ;).

Now if we have a smart con man and some not so stupid people who get suckered in well then he should be commended for his talent and fined a large sum of money unless he has committed a serious crime that can't be fixed by money.

I hope his ass get pwned bigtime in prison. But I must admire and respect his capacity for evil.(~Gemini Man, TheWilyFortress)

It's sad, and probably true, that he's probably gonna get out in like 5 to 10 years, then have all, or most of his money still waiting for him, with interest. I am SO glad I didn't buy into that fed-ex job junk email.Dont we all?
