View Full Version : Where will it be?
Diablo and all of the other games by Blizzard have been set on distant worlds, never really set on a realistic setting of our own world. At least in a timeframe we'd recognize and such. ;)
So to the point, where do you think this game will be? Where do you want it to be? What do you look for in a game's setting, or does that not matter too much to you?
I believe it was on one of the other fansites, that they mentioned in this photo:

that the distinct appearance of that building in the back is possibly that of the U.S. Capitol Building.. what's your take?
Well, I can leak a couple of things the game isn’t, though, just to get you thinking. It isn’t a classic fantasy story, it isn’t set in some place you’ve never heard of, and it isn’t a sports title. Bill Roper said that in an early interview. So it's quite possible that the game is set in the U.S. and that is the capitol building.

Well if you look here, you'll see that the general shape of the cone seems to be consistent -- and the statue figure up top seems to be just visible in the FS image.

Holy geeze, I didn't pick up on that at all!
So this arouses a few interesting points. Judging from the high-tech look to the game itself, I can make two assumptions:
* The game is held way in the future and humans have become borg. The rubble and dead world would be a result of nuclear war.
* Aliens have attacked earth or something along those lines. Judging from the concept art, I think this is the more feasible option.
It definitely does look like the game is being held on Earth and following our timeline of history and such (explaining the US capitol building). On this note of aliens and high-tech stuff though, how far ahead in the future do you guys think the game will be?
My estimate is 2100 ;).
along the same lines though, if you look at this image:

you'll clearly note it takes place in some sort of subway tunnel, etc. yet again showing some form of post-disaster time period.
additionally, you'll note in this new image, it could either be the capitol or as someone mentioned over at flagshipforums, St Pauls in London. And after adding in an image of St Paul's.. it's almost as if they just took that street and drew it out. ;)

Very interesting...I haven't heard much about Flagship except that they were part of Blizzard (Blizzard North, was it?)
I hope their games will have the same consistent level of quality Blizzard brings to our computers.

Well I just spent 30min looking at pictures of the area around the US Capitol and St. Paul's, and I still can't determine whether the setting is one or the other. I was primarily focusing on the architecture of the buildings (for what else do we have?).
The Capitol of course has the Mall in front of it and it also has open space behind it, so it were to be the Capitol in the background, it would have to be a side view of the building. However, on the side there are lots of trees and things. It is possible to have a view of the Capitol with just buildings and no trees in the foreground, though.
Of course the London Underground is a setting more easily employed in an facinating storyline than is the DC Metro.

Perhaps they´re making a Fallout inspired RPG?
EDIT:// Hmm, or perhaps something like Deus Ex.
Flagship has nothing to do with Blizzard or BlizzNorth, the only relation they have is that most of thier founders came form Blizz North.
Interesting, Ive always been fascinated with post-war type stories where a main character rises to move thigns back on track... or somesuch.

Yeah, I noticed that before. I am pretty sure it is the capital building.
You've no idea better than we have.
I'd say all clues point to it being St. Paul's.. not the Capitol Building.

Just by looking at the pictures, I'm inclined to say St. Paul's.
The game is definately set in future Earth, where war has obviously shattered society as we know it. The pictures alone are giving me tingles; can't wait to see more. :)

But I wonder what would make them NOT use the Capitol Building. But yeah, it seems to be St. Paul's.

My thoughts exactly. If this is in the future sometime the surroundings may have changed significantly while the building remains. I think that if we are on the right track, it is more likely to be DC.

But the architecture in the concept art is old-style, very traditional with the false pillars and Georgian windows. There's still a lot of this around today, but I don't know how many people would build new buildings in this style 100 years from now.
