Why are the Irish so famous for getting drunk? I was wondering.

EDIT: According to dictionary.com , both of them are correct. O_o

EDIT 2: Maybe it's because of the immagration to America and how they had to work hard so the immagrants got drunk often...

Stereotypes are funny like that. Someone's first experience with the Irish was probably when they were totally off their nut, and hence they were left with the impression that Irish are heavy drinkers. *shrug*
