In the next months, Half Life 2, Doom 3, and Timesplitters 3 are coming out. So, as awesome as Halo 2 is, how will it hold up against these games? Is Halo 2 good enough to be considered "best game ever?" (or in a select list of like, three games for that title) Will it stay there after these other games come out? As a result of Halo 2 and these others, what direction with FPS games go? Just questions that I thought should be raised...

Even though I do not like Halo that much, I believe it is a fairly good game. I haven't had much experience with Half-Life so I don't really know. However, I love Doom. All the Doom games I like, personally, I think Doom3 out does them all. I believe that FPS games will become much more high-tech requiring extremely advanced video cards to function therefore phasing out old vedio cards. This means that most games will have graphics so good that they will almost look real. I hope...

Halo 2 didn't have me very excited, but then again, I don't have an Xbox. Single player Halo is fun, but a little repetitive, and multiplayer gets annoying after a while. There are tons of things that I don't like about halo's multiplayer, and if they don't fix them in Halo 2...

In Halo PC, the flamethrower is rediculous, offering guaranteed kills in close range. Come on! You're wearing a crystalline armored battlesuit. I just don't see fire as a problem. Plus it's way too easy to kill people with vehicles, which are way too cheap themselves. They should be able to explode, not have all hits go directly to the players. All a vehicle does is make you 10 times easier to hit. I get shot down in banshees and tanks all the time WITH PISTOLS. Does that make sense? The rocket launcher is insanely powerful. Just aim at the ground, and if it hits within 20 feet of your target, it's an instant kill. I hate pretty much anything capable of 1 shot kills. It's just way too cheap. And the pistol is a bit overpowered.

In Halo 2, rockets are supposed to be able to home in on target, as if they weren't powerful enough already. The sword sounds fun, but the lunge attack sounds way too cheap, and it just doesn't seem practical to hijack a vehicle by simply kicking them off. I'm getting some mixed reviews about Halo 2, and it doesn't sound too impressive.

But enough ranting about Halo...sorry, but I've spent the past 2 days playing it online, and I keep getting frustrated with all this stuff. I'm a decent player, and I've come in first place in a fair share of slayer matches.

Now Half-Life 2 has me excited. The graphics look infinitely better than Halo, and I'm sure the single player will far outclass the Halo games. I hope it has it's own multiplayer. Not that counterstrike stuff, I want a multiplayer experience in the Half-Life universe.

That reminds me. I was over at a friends house, we tested half-life over LAN, and we were fighting with crowbars. When you killed someone, the game would pause for a second, you hear a sound like machine gun fire, and your opponent explodes plastering blood all over the walls. Some glitch with lag I guess. It was pretty damn funny.

Is Timesplitters for PC? I've played it on gamecube at a friends house. The multiplayer was fun, but I'm too used to using PCs, and I can never get good with controllers.

You have to take into account that if you are wearing armor that is heavy and air tight, and you are hit with some kind of incendiary weapon that the air inside the suit increases dramaticly. In this you are not burned...you are scalded and broiled.

Sounds fun doesn't it...

I'm an Xbox gamer, mostly (WC3 and SC being exceptions). Halo seems to be a love/hate thing, you love it or you hate it, I haven't seen much in-between with gamers. But we're not talking about Halo, we're talking Halo 2. Everything Bungie did right with Halo is even better, and the few things done wrong were fixed, as far as I can tell, having played it for two or three days. Rockets only track vehicles, and you need to lock on, which takes a couple seconds. Swords are fun, one-two hit deaths if you can keep from being lit up by the new shotgun, the buffed needler, etc...anyway, what I'm really trying to get out of whoever reads this thread is this: Will the "OMG factor" of Halo 2 still be there after HL2 and Timesplitters 3 and Doom 3?

Thank you, Rage!! Seems like this thread is dead...nobody has anything to say about Halo 2 or these other big games coming out? Pity. I thought it would be good discussion, too...

Unless Halo 2 comes out for PC, I'll probably never end up playing it. I've heard some reviews about the single player, and the way it sounds, it's not very good. Halo was a good game, but I didn't see it as this big revolutionary awesome game. Halo's single player was fun, but it was really repetetive and annoying at anything higher than normal difficulty. Multiplayer was fun, but I get really frustrated with it. See my rant in my last post. For any of you who have tried Halo 2's multiplayer, have they fixed any of the stuff that I complained about?

Halo 2 sounds like it's strong point is multiplayer, but I'm more of a single player gamer. That's probably why Half-Life 2 is so appealing to me...plus the fact that the screenshots look amazingly real. I haven't preordered HL2, but I have plans to go with some friends to pick it up either Tuesday or Wednesday. I just hope my computer's good enough.

Halo had some bland graphics because my computer has a really difficult time running at a higher resolution or with high detail settings. I hope HL2 will run smoother... but I think I'm going to have to upgrade my video card either way.

Trust me, the rocket homing in thing, makes it more fair. And it isn't too overpowered. Lunge attack is pretty cheap, but if your good, you can easily avoid it. Just keep backing away, and keeping pumping bullets. DO NOT move toward it, just keep backing away. Hijacking is very easy, but in multiplayer, it is slightly hard to use, since you won't know the right time to do so (Hard to explain, but trust me on this). So it isn't overpowered either. Halo 2 is amazing. I haven't finished the single player though (Around 10 levels into the game currently) but it seems pretty good. Gameplay, and graphics are better than the first Halo. I would say very honestly that this is the best game ever. At first I felt very dissappointed, because it seemed to suck. But once you get a feel for it, you will love it. Especially if you have xbox live.

So yeah, Halo 2 will hold up, win best game of the year, and in my opinion is the best game. Until Halo 3 that is (I hope).

I laughed at that too, the big bad banshee and tank, taken down by a Pistol. That weapon was really overrated, but really, really weak in Halo 2, but an instant kill for a headshot so if paired with a plasma rifle it's not too bad, and can't down those banshee's anymore!

That rocket launcher really does seem too powerful, the lock on feature is well deserved though, I hated it when someone grabbed a tank or a ghost and that was the end of the round it felt, with the lock-on it makes driving those beasts more of a burden and only good drivers can do well against a rocket carrier.

Now Half-Life 2 has me excited. The graphics look infinitely better than Halo, and I'm sure the single player will far outclass the Halo games. I hope it has it's own multiplayer. Not that counterstrike stuff, I want a multiplayer experience in the Half-Life universe.

I agree fully. An amazing game engine (Outclasses everything else at the moment) and I allways found Half-Life 1's storyline more preferrable to Halo. Also packed in that I've read half life 2's ending is actually good compared to the abrupt and frustrating ending of Halo 2.

the buffed needler, etc...anyway, what I'm really trying to get out of whoever reads this thread is this: Will the "OMG factor" of Halo 2 still be there after HL2 and Timesplitters 3 and Doom 3?

buffed needler? :o After using that gun for a bit, I still find it the *odd* gun out. Seriously. I can use 1 head shot with the pistol if there is no shields and it's an instant kill. I can still drain the shelds instantly with the plasma pistol. Every gun has at least 1 good purpose, even the weak ones. But that needler, albeit buffed, is still the weakest link in the arsenal.

Can't wait to see what'll have more sales though, Halo 2 or Half Life 2, but Halo 2 got the day record I'm sure right now.

i have to say personally that the rockets lock on is so sweet and doesnt make it impossible because there is still a chance for dodgeing it, i love the fact that the rocket now flies faster than in halo 1 the needler is totally kickass in dualweild pumpin twice the number of shitballs per second and killing someone in half the time i have to say sniper rifles are choice against punchin shit off the banshees and thats alot of fun and the game engine is awesome and the physics on death are sooo much better
