Its Slayers_'Boxer'

Yeah? SlayerS_`Boxer` has resigned? Well I'll be. I'm sure he's got enough prize money to keep him going for a while, anyway. I guess there's only so long you can keep competing professionally at a game as old as StarCraft...

Dang, a news clip too. That's crazy how gaming is viewed in South Korea.

yeah I guess you have to retire some time. but I bet he will come on once in a while to play a little for sure. Isn't he going to the korean army or something?

He had to quit. He joined the South Korean army. Sure he could come back and play again but he would suck like hell from lack of practice.

Aah, I see; Korea's one of those countries with mandatory millitary service, are they?

(might seem like an extremely ignorant question, but we all have to learn sometime)

I guess because they happen to be in a war with north korea. except the thing is that they just point guns at each other the whole time and don't fight. atleast not yet. I think you have to serve for 3 years or something.

The Korea Border is the most guarded border in the world. The South Korean army is significantly less then the North Koreans. So the South Koreans need the mandatory service.

Both Koreas have conscription. And IMO South could kick North's ass anyday nuke or no nuke. They got the backing of the US and almost every other country. But thats not for me to decide. But ya Boxer is going into conscription for a bit..... when he comes back... I bet I could beat him even with his superior dropship mechanics.

He'll be in the army for 2-3 years I don't recall, but he said he isn't going to play even when he gets back... which is for the best cause competitive SC will probably be over by then.

off topic but has anyone here ever served in the infantry before...i wonder if that would make you a better strategist in RTS games

i have the FCA the irish reserve defense force, and no it didn't really help all the tactics used today are very formal and every situation has been countered in the best possible way there's no real room for improvisation

what do you mean beefhart? That real life war is totally different than the game starcraft?
If you do, then I sort of agree with you. It matters if your a soldier or a commander. If you are a soldier things will be much more different then starcraft. If you are a commander things will be some what similar but there will also be some differences.

StarCraft is only a Game. Like chess is a war game. But its different from real war.

yeah which is what I said. Chess and Starcraft only capture a few factors of war. One that they may never be able to do is the feeling you get when you know you are going to die.
