Will it survive? Can it overcome the forever battle against inactivity? Only YOU can decide! Get posting! To start it off:

Why do you think the Covenant are invading Earth, instead of merely glassing it, like the countless others they have conquered? The only real reason we've seen so far is because there is a Forerunner object on that planet...

Thoughts?

Initially I thought, "Will this forum work?" but then I saw all of the new threads and enthusiasts :)

I reckon that we will need a sort-of clan-location, online sticky, with accounts, etc., and possibly clan vs clan threads, where one WB member's clan challenges another's, etc.? Sounds promising.

As for the storyline, I wouldn't have a clue. I haven't been enlightened to much of the storyline, just features, graphics, etc.

Extermination is the name of the game, that's in my eyes why the Convanent are going after Earth :) Gotta love the enemies that are not out to enslave or capture, but destroy!

Why do I think they are invading Earth? Because they have destroyed most of the planets that Earth already owned.. and now they just want to finish the job.. Ever read the stories? Might fine books. ;)

I guess you guys didn't understand the question. Not WHY they are coming after Earth, that part is obvious. The question was why the Covenant are sending ground troops onto Earth when they could merely wipe out Earth's orbital defences and then glass the planet?

And yes, I have read all of the books from start to finish.

Probably to make sure we ALL die, and to see if they can find any technology that they don't have. :)

Yeah, but then they would first glass Earth, and then send in troops to see if anyone is still alive. But from what Master Cheif said in one of the books, it seems highly unlikely that the Covenant would miss a spot.

And ZeroDarkStar, aren't they glassing it too? Because in one of the videos bungie released, don't you remember it saying Earth is getting destroyed, and then you see the covenant glass Earth, and Master Chief dives from the ship onto the covenant ship?

They don't seem to be glassing it for a number of reasons:

They have never, in any book or game, glassed a planet without removing all human defenses and outposts. There is clearly humans left, as you can tell from the radio transmissions and by the mere fact that the Master Chief is still alive on an orbiting station.

It's been detailed in the books that the Covenant use their plasma turrets to glass a planet. From the trailer, it seems like they are using some sort of nuclear device.

Notice that the ships are moving. Glassing a planet while the ship is still moving seems pretty idiotic, considering that the plasma turrets require time to recharge, so they would miss large chunks of land, and thus it would be more effort then needed. They should just do a holding orbit using microthrusters and glass it faster.

The explosions only seem to be occuring in large cities. The land in view is obviously the western coast of the United States, and you can see the explosions happening in the larger cities (Seattle, for example, which is sort of humorous, considering Microsoft's main office is in Redmond, near Seattle). If they were really glassing the planet, they'd be just be destroying in a straight line, not targeting cities only.
