Ideas for Avatar

I would like to suggest we use the avatar based on # of posts idea. Some might argue it encourages spamming... but we all know that spamming can be delt with.

For those of you whoe don't know heres an example of how it might work.
1-50 posts your avatar= Peasant
50-100 posts your avatar= Footmen
100-300 posts your avatar= Rifleman.

Of course this is only for Warcraft. Its possible to implement other worlds like the starcraft one into it, or you could have people choose. Or if you guys don't like this, we could stay with the no avatars, or do the custom avatars. Just another suggestion i wanted to throw out there.

Then after X posts(or staff), you get to choose custom! Kinda like the titles. ;)

I think it would be a good idea if there were a few icons under our name to indicate rank, like on Fenguin, but also the option of a custom avatar.

In response to spamming:
I think one of the ideas of this forum is that spamming jsut won't happen. Sure, specially right now, were all trying to beef up our post count, but as things cool off i'm pretty confident that this community will ease off. And like I said, there will always be mods to watch things like that. Finally, i've seen very succesful communities use this system, and it works great.

In response to wanting personal avatars:
I understand the want to express yourself, but I think that can be done in your posts, and if they allow it, your avatar. Plus the idea of allowing custom avatars at a high level is a cool idea.


Finally I want to apoligize if the mods arn't planning on ever having an avatar. I'm perfectly fine with that, but if we do get them or sigs later on, i just want this idea to be in the woodwork. Thanks guys.

I always like my own custom adviatr.. Im the same adviatr at evry site. I like the idea for that, but perhaps the defualt ranking sytem for non personal ones like luther-stark said.

Could you possibly give us a size range other than "medium"? 125x125 like at the other place? Or smaller (100x100ish)?

Could we possibly have avatars the same size or a little bigger than the ones at Blizzforums? Its hard to get my old old avatar small enough to work while still being able to read it.

I highly doubt that avatars here will be larger than 125x125 pixels. Anything larger tends to eat too much of the screen and causes short posts to take up large chunks of a thread.

you guys need to understand that 125x125 is a fairly large avatar.. and along with adding more load to each page, those avatars mark up charles' nice postbit.. expect them to be in the 80-100 pixel range.

Yeah, seriously. 125x125 was waaay too large, I was putting in the biggest stuff I could find to fill up the space. 80-100 is much more manageable. With the added bonus of fitting well in the postbit. :p

Avatars and signatures always help me identify people. Because when you are scrolling trough a thread, you need more then a name to quickly identify people.
I don't like the idea of Luther because it's the same like a titles, and guess why they allowed custom titles?

i think (nobody attack me cause im sure this has been said before) that a non-custom avatar would defeat the point. Custom avatars give you something to associate the person with (oh god not another post by the purple lizard guy...).

alpha mode has everything to do with disallowing avys. same with signatures. same with a few other things.

Right now its a transition time for these boards and all the non essential extras will come in due time. Trust me this came straight from one of the admins. I know what I am talking about.

Unless of course the admin i spoke with (whistles for AJ) has no clue what he is talking about. Which could be entirely possible. but i doubt it.

I dunno about that, Schwitzer, Judging by Fenguin's, OboeGuru's, and my post count, I doubt that anyone is as big of a spammer as the three of, us at the moment. :/

I don't really mind about avatars, it's my sig that I worry about. I think I've only drawn two avys in my entire graphic design experience.

A free image hoster I suggest is Yoxio (http://www.yoxio.com) I use them and they're great.

And custom titles would be nice, though I also like the idea of bolts or whatever for ranks.

I think the experience point system idea sucks, to be quite honest. Seriously, it doesn't really benefit this site much unless you are going to have it for actual role playing games which would need an HP, MP and XP system. The HP, MP and XP level for Demon Child would be realitively high since in the role playing world the character of Demon Child would have a really high level since he is basically a) immortal, b) highest ranking officer of the Demon Knights group, and c) proficient with both melee and ranged combat. (to name a few characteristics)
