Is there some way to modify the Computer's Tactics in Starcraft/Broodwar?
The reason I ask is that against the computer, even against six computer players,
I have a very good defense. After a while, though, the computer players just seem
to give up! They don't expand their bases, they don't build more units either for
defense, or attack, etc. Even though they still have ore and gas available, they don't
seem to go for them.
What gives? It seem that if you can survive their first rush attacks, you've got it made.
Even though I have a decent defense, I'm not very good at attacking early in the game.
I'm working on that...
Thanks, Heartscarfer!

I'm sure they can help you, we here, only deal with real tactics for people who want to get good at this game.
One of our rules is no posting about strats or questions or anything of that nature vs comps.

Hey, i would rather have people who want to get better so are asking questions on this bored, than people who wont answer them cause they dont play the same thing as them.
The reasons why the computers dont do much of anything is becasue their AI tells them to try to target expansions. If you survive the initial rush, then they just target your expansion, if you turtle not much comes. I had the same problem.

Perhaps you'll get a better answer in this forum.
You can edit the computer AI using SCAIEdit III. However, it'll take quite a bit of work to learn and it won't totally remedy all the problems the computer AI has at the moment.
Yes, SCAIEdit (StarCraft AI Edit) will allow you to edit AI Scripts, but that has to be released as a mod/custom, I think.
The reason they do that is because the scripts are designed with a bunch of waves. The first wave consists of x zerglings, the second has a random for x zerglings x hydras or y zergligns y hydras...
Blizzard only programmed so many waves (7 on either insane or custom, and less on easier levels, I think). After all the waves of attackers have attacked, there is a loop that tells it to do something, such as creating units, expanding, scouting, and attacking player expansions. Every once in a while, they should attack you though...
Ah, ha! I found it!

They have some set, scripted rushes they will use, but only if there is a high chance it will end the game. It's unlikely these rushes will be used if the map maker has given the player any starting forces.
They attack when they see the player has expanded to a new base. They try, if they can, to target expansions to prevent the player from getting out of where they started -- "starving" the player while the AI expands, eventually building enough troops to take over the player's starting base.
If the player does not expand there are no scripted attacks for around 40 minutes. After that the player will get attacked whether they have expanded or not.

Anyone here know how to implement those AIs made by the editor INTO the game? Does it need to be through a mod?
