For 2 weeks of Mod making, I can only edite "weapons, flingy, units, etc...(mostly on Arsenal). I have GRP <---> BMP Converter thing (the program with the ELMO lings Pictur). How do you put them into a mod? Stell having all those things from Arsenal3 stuff in it to?

IceCC isnt working for me. Needs a "Java" thing and it says it doesnt work for Mac OS or Windows... (I got Xp). I got just "ICE" though.

well if you make your mod with making a folder of your changes and then usuing the MPQ compacter, then you put in the edited GRP files in that folder with thier origonal filenames and paths. so if it was units/terran/piillbox.grp, you'd put it in a folder called terran, inside another folder called unit, and have that unit folder in the custom folder.

just wondering than... how to create *.ral files?

You make *.ral files by converting files into GRPS.

well you dont "make" .ral files, they seem to be automatically updated for all conversions you've made to the graphical files.

you name each frame the same as the frames for the origonal unit, then use retroGRP to compile the bitmaps to GRPs from loading the origonal .ral file.

This is what my Desktop looks every weekend.

As you can see I have a file called "UED". I put all my "MemGraft, StarGraft, And Arsenal3" files there (My projects). Then I put all the stuff into WinMPQ. My mod is a MemGraft file (UED.patch). I have some .GRP files on my Folder "Portraits". Like the Terran Raider, and Infested BattleCruiser.grp s.
On The GRP<-->BMP converter, how do i save the files into the WinMPQ?

Ok You lost me there. How is only doing that going to change a spirate. And MPQCompacter doesnt do anything for the mgpatch.mpq I have for the x-tra units I want to build. And I am using WinMPQ instead on MPQ Compacter.
All i want is to change Norad II into a Infested BattleCruiser.grp and Gui Montage Into the Raider.grp (Looks like marine with holding a missile luancher instead of the Guass Rifle).

okay, I can't find the path for the Norad II or Gui Montag, so I can't help you. And you really should use the MPQ Compactor, it does everything for you. Alright, I can see you're using MemGraft. In this case, I ditch the MPQ Compactor. Okay, first of all, you need to replace the .GRP's. For instance, say you were editing a marine. The path to a marine is unit\terran\marine.grp. Follow me? Now what you want to do is that in that Patch_rt.mpq that you copied, add your "Raider.GRP" as "Marine.GRP" to the Patch_rt.mpq, for example, and when it asks you to where to add it, write "unit\terran\" and it should overwrite the old one and your new .GRP would be displayed. For the mgpatch.mgd, what you would do is add it to that patch_rt.mpq and add it under "custom\" instead. Btw, when you did your memgraft project, you didn't put the patch file path in the "misc" tab as patch_rt.mpq, right? If you did, well let's just say that's going to add a lot of hassle. That would result in a permanent file change, replacing the originial Patch_rt.mpq to your modded one, so you couldn't remove the mod. You could simply backup the original, then when you want to un-mod replace the modded patch_rt.mpq with your original copy. Hope you understand something out of this.

Hero GRPs use the original GRPs unless they are custom. So if you wanted Norad II, the GRP would be the battlecruiser one.

I already know about the "custom\..." thing all i needed was the changine the spirats, and ure instructions worked. I test it on the marines and it worked! thanks alot. I didnt do that with hero names yet but ill take your advice on StealthyDeath's. Sorry I wasnt quick to post this I can "play" on the weekends and fri. Im only 14 and dont want to go to summer school again.

I got some potraits from "NexuseCore.com" and wonder how you put that into my custom. (.smk file)

I gave up making sprites a long time ago. I don't have the right picture editor. I'm stuck with Microsoft Paint. Oh well, <sniff>...

1 more thing about the hero thing. What about if I change spirites to Gui Montage In Arsenal 3 (under general) as a something I dont use in my custom like "Mineral Chunk Type 1" and make the "raider.grp" as Mineral Chunk Type1
in my WinMPQ?

RetroGRP automatically creates them in the file you told RetroGRP to put the BMP files in.
To create ral files, I think you just make a list:
(What the GRP file you want to change is called)
(First BMP file)
(Second BMP file)

and so on.
To SuiCidAl-KiSmEt's last post:
Whaa?
Umm... use RetroGRP, and then extract the BMP files for the Supply Depot, change them, then compile them again, if that's what you mean...

winmpq should take care of your needs as it will allow you to modify the .exe mods you make later. this comes in handy when you want to fix things like grps and .dat files.

remember the grp name before extracting, if you want to change the command center you would have to change the grp using either retro grp or sfgrpconv then add the changed grp to the mpq or exe, which ever one you are using, then give it the name of unit\terran\control.grp.

you can add anything to an mpq\exe using the winmpq.

Whoah!

This is a really old thread, so it's unlikely that it will be of help anymore. Please check the date of the last post before posting, in future.
