Hey all...I was just browsing around the net, searching for various Starcraft-related programs, when I came upon a couple forums/websites that spoke about a program called GUEdit used for extra editting options for Starcraft map-making. The problem is, every link I've seen of it doesn't work, and I can't seem to find this file anywhere.

Does anyone out there know of a link that DOES work, so I could finally get it and get back to my map-creating work?

(Just a note, I downloaded the seemingly required 5 MB Java file that's needed to run GUEdit already, so there's no need to point me in that direction. Just need the actual program now...lol)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

wut is GUEdit...ive heard o it b4 but.... its a collection of tool... things i guess, in one program. it can edit player colors, protect maps, and a few other stuff, i dont really use it though, for protection i just use proedit, and for player colors etc. i just use SCMDraft/starforge. lets try to keep this thread on-topic though.

Ah! In my haste to post my plea I had foolishly overlooked the thread. Thank you Nahotnoj, for your swift and helpful reply. Hopefully now I can get back on track.

...Hmm. I might just hang around here a bit longer, now that I see there are decent enough people around.

Some of the people here can be quite rude, but so far, it looks like you've found the good crowd. Jon (His username backwards, if you are wondering) is quite a good person with helping out. Also, BSTRhino, our resident moderator is quite a help as well, along with a lot of the other regulars. Make sure you check through all our links as well, if you have other specific problems.

Oh, and I'd recommend that if you don't know the original StarEdit editor very well, I'd get to know it first. If you try and pick GUEdit up right away, you might burn yourself out. Find out anything you don't know first, then download it and try it. I'd also recommend SCMDraft2 as a good editor. There is no trigger editor in it, though, so be careful...

Welcome to Warboards, and I hope you enjoy your stay! :)

Thanks again. Oh, and Geno, I've already created a few maps on StarEdit. Granted, I may not have mastered or learned all of its functions yet, but I have created a bunch of melee maps, as well as one fairly decent UMS, so, I'm just starting to expand.

Soon, I may submit my maps to SCUMS. Maybe tonight. Not quite sure yet.

And I might just check out that SCMDraft2 program you mentioned a little further down the road. Like you said, I don't want to burn myself out, and seeing as I just got the X-tra editor 2.5, and am now getting GUEdit, I think I'll wait a little while before giving that a whirl.

I would just like to add that GUEdit has been around for a long
time and is still considered an essential tool in my map making
arsenal. It's easy to use and comes in very handy for taking
one map and importing terrain or units from another. Probably
the one thing I use it most is to protect maps instead of using
say ScmToolkit. Protecting a map with Guedit will decrease the
size of the map file by as much as 10k which is good for BtlNet
downloads, while Scmtookit increases the size, which is bad.
Also Guedit protected maps won't crash an editor like Scmtookit
does. I now protect maps only to decrease the file size rather
then to protect it from other people. I've never worried about
"map theft" as this rarely happens, and I kinda like people to
be able to look at my maps in an editor. They can't figure out
how I make them anyway. What I need is a program that will
shrink the file size like Guedit without actually protecting it.
If you're really a serious map designer you should check out
GUEdit right now, it's easy to figure out.

Proedit is a better choice for decreaing file size and protecting maps. I can get shrink a 150 KB map to 110KB when using Proedit and the protection is the best out there as you can't unprotect it with SCU like GUEDit.
