I think its a much better way to go about it. Their making them into Professions and Secondary skills, meaning you are only allowed 2 Professions but all the Secondary skills. Also, survival skills is being wrapped into cookery which makes things easier, and no more skill points, everything is paid for with gold.

I also like the benefits of this system.

Before this, you were able to make a sort-of 'tradeskill' character, who would basically be the money-man of your account (this is what I've heard from BETA reports -- not a personal conclusion), which disrupts the gameplay of the game.
It's great that you pay in gold, and not skill points, too.

I kind of liked the skill points X_x. When you're a mage and you have to buy spells you're kind of always strapped for cash, so I probably won't be able to hit up professions until I'm a bit higher level :(.
