View Full Version : SC2 Idea: Terran ability should have...

Very new to board, so don't be so harsh if this idea has already been explored. I'll explain it as best I can. If you read between the lines certain words are in CAPS and BOLDED to make the point.

SC seems to be a game of “analogous themed abilities” which are subtly changed and balanced from race to race. For example, Protoss Psi Storm (semi-instant effect; medium scale; effects UNITS ONLY) is to Zerg Plague (semi-instant effect; effects BOTH units and buildings) is to Terran Nuclear (delayed effect; effects BOTH units and buildings) or Terran Irradiate (semi-instant effect; medium depending scale; effects biological UNITS ONLY).

On the theme of ***RECHARGE*** it seems to be that there's a variation of this “theme” idea for Protoss and Zerg, but is missing for Terran (although some will argue after reading this that the medic or Sci Vessel represents this theme. But remember NEITHER IS INSTANT).

Protoss - Shield Battery:a STATIC (non-movable) BUILDING ground fixture which units have to run to INSTANTLY charge OTHER units shields (Important Point: The SB can recharge a nearby selected unit, but I don’t know anyone who clicks on the SB and then chooses the unit instead of the unit running to the SB). No unit mana cost involved.

Zerg - Defiler (CONSUME): a MOVABLE unit having to move to another STATIC UNIT (not like the zergling can run into the defilers mouth) to INSTANTLY charge OWN mana ability.

***Which brings me to my Terran idea***

Terran - ***RECHARGE*** a MOVABLE unit having to move to another STATIC UNIT (or within range like Toss SB; might as well be static) to INSTANTLY charge OTHER units mana ability.

In my humble opinion this ability should be one of the MEDICS and should replace the optical flare (is there possibly a more useless ability?!?!?). For reasons obvious to the balance of the game, in SC2 (like its ever going to happen anywayJ), RECHARGE SHOULD NEVER BE AN AUTOCAST ABILITY. Also because of its potential advantages, yet latent benefits (remember a completely different unit has to make use of the mana) it should come at a high expense to benefit ratio, say 150 mana cost to 75 mana benefit.

I’ll share that I came up with this idea after losing an hour + long 8 person BGH FFA because the batteries in my mouse had died in the closing moments in which the trash talking jerk says “See loser, I can even EMP you in real life!”. J With all the technology the terrans have in this future galaxy far far away, they should at least have the ability of a battery charger. J

Feedback welcome,

First: Optical flare has saved my ass twice it is not a useless ability And it was an awesome ploy by boxer who used it.Second: Another thing is terrans dont need a mana recharge that would make them overpowered and annoying

he's right dude, the flare thingy saved me while facing a hyped up utralisk:o !
and no one needs there mana recharged! the terran have stupid weakling mana attacks! I don't use them at all! so, no. you may be new, but that idea sucked.

Optic Flare is a MUST when fighting against Zerg. It prevents units for detecting; more then once I've had a blinded overlord completly screw me over in a heated battle. As for mana recharge....I don't think three consecutive Yamato blasts or a cracked up science vessel dishing out defence matrix's like there's no tommorow will make the game fair at all.

I have to disagree with the teh optical flare. It is not usless, because something like an Observer with the advantage of detecting and a huge range is totally useless when blind. Also, I like how the medics regen is auto, becuase I wouldn't want to have to click on my 30 marines becuase each of them is missing 10 hp cause of stimpacks.

Chargeing mana would suck, cause you could just keep chargen your sci-vessals and iraddating your zerg enemys all to hell.

Like everyone else is saying, Optical flare isn't useless, and it's doubtful that all of this will be exactly the same, in fact much the oposite, so replacing abilities would be more like a starcraft 1 patch.

Optical Flare saved my ass too, in Terran BW mission Dylarian Shipyards, i might have gotten the wrong name, but it's the mission where you have to get the pilots to the battlecruisers. That grenade saved my pilot from getting his ass blown to bits by a siege tank

I think nobetr was refering to multiplayer when he said it was useless. Dylarian shipyards was practically designed around the medic.
But ya it still isnt totally useless

i actually would like to see more automation in the game. if you have a huge battle going it can be very difficult (not challenging, just laborious and click-ful) to get your spells cast. if we go with a strike force system, you could assign a sci vessel or templar to your group and have it casting automated defense matrices and psi storms. if it's found imbalancing they can just alter stats a bit, and you'll still probably do it better than the comp when you want to do it yourself.

as for the mana recharger.. the way i see it, you have a mana recharger for the zerg, a shield recharger for the protoss, and a health recharger for the terrans. pretty symmetrical. starcraft 2 will be a brand new game though, especially with regard to special abilities, so i guess we'd have a new symmetry this time. it would be ideal if they could get the original starcraft team back at blizzard. i don't see it happening, but if i were a blizzard exec, i'd be offering them 6 figure salaries, total creative freedom, and my first born daughter...
