Two things you shouldn't do...

One, post advertisements.
Two, double post. It's the devil if you do.

Other than that, welcome to WarBoards. Oh, and be careful which maps you said you made... Some can be good, some can be very bad... And if you say you made 9999 unit maps, I'm going to run far far away from these forums really fast.

I'll leave this thread open if you want to discuss this ToJ's maps. Just in case you've ever played them.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, what exactly qualifies as spam and what qualifies as a legitimate release? I agree that the first post of this thread is an advertisement, but if it were somehow worded differently, but with the same message, could it conceivably be accepted? Presumably, if any of us regulars released a map, we'd welcome it. So as my question, why should we shun advertising but accept a map release announcement on this board by anyone else? (Or is it not anyone else? Is being a regular what qualifies one to post their map?)

EdvardMunch, the first post is perfectly legit. As you can see, I've left this thread open and left the first post around so you can all comment on his maps.

The line between advertising and non-advertising has not been perfectly drawn yet. The basic part of it is, if it looks like the person is just taking advantage of our member numbers to gain visitors to his or her site, then that is advertising. So... was he taking advantage of our member numbers to gain visitors to his site? In this case, yes.

I don't believe I would have let a link to his forums exist no matter how the message was worded, primarily because he just signed up.

Map release announcements are perfectly fine, I encourage the people from StarCraft.org to come here and get feedback on their map. The reason we don't allow advertising is because if it were allowed, it is possible that hundreds of people would flock over here and make posts everywhere to advertise their sites. And our goal here is to make a fun place for all of you to discuss Blizzard Games and life in general. That wouldn't be productive in reaching that goal.

But, the truth is EdvardMunch, does it really matter? We formed WarBoards.org so we wouldn't turn into the bureaucratic entity that has become of BlizzForums, with so many people talking about the moderation and the staff to the point where they lose sight of what really matters. The only person who should be interested in reasons should be ToJ himself. All of the staff are sick of people questioning about moderators because -they- want to be moderators. Just act like you don't know what the word moderator means, so that we can have fun talking about StarCraft maps.

I'm only playing Devil's Advocate, the line between spam and announcements is something I'm curious about. I understand the problem with allowing all advertisements, and that this forum would become nothing less than what happens you first log in to battle.net, but I'd just like to push the issue and see if I can find a definitive line.

So from the sounds of it, being a regular is what allows one to post a map?

Oh, no, you can be a complete newbie and say 'please test out my map and tell me what you think' and it will be fine. If it's something like, 'here's a new custom making program made by me, come to my website to download it' then I would let that stand too, as long as it was a legitimate program.

The link he posted was his forums, and obviously that was advertising.

The help me help me thing I thought was legit, but technically, if they say 'A new custom program by me' thing, that's (To me of course) advertising. Now if they have posted for a while, or have visited the forums a long time, then I can understand, but making ONE post about it... That's unnecceccery... o.O

P.S. That's just me of course... Don't take any of it to heart.
