I haven't played in a year or more, and I really need help. I don't know which race to specialize in yet. I'm on USEast under the name ShinyPrismLight@USEast. If anyone could come online and help me with gameplay strats or give me some good replays to look at, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

There's some good replays already posted in threads in this forum... look for those with this image next to their title in the thread listing: http://img.orgnetwork.com/wb/misc/paperclip.gif.

I think most of the guys hang out in the channel WarBoards on US East nowadays... I'm not too sure, because I'm unable to connect to battle.net whilst I'm at college :(

If you post any replays of yourself and ask for advice you'll receive some excellent pointers :)

Use terran for now. They're the most well balanced, can build on any buildable terrain, and, if all else fails, they've got flying buildings.

Orrrrrrr....you can avoid people like the guy above me. Play all the races, find out which one has a play style which matches you.

Heh, if you have to resort to flying your buildings away 'cause your base is being raised, I think it's a fair bet that you've already lost.

I definately agree here. I like terran. Some people like zerg. most people like protoss. choose for yerself.

most people like protoss.
THAT's an understatement, from what I've seen.

Personally, I like the Terran as well, and the flying building ability HAS saved me a couple times when I would've been eliminated. (and I did come back to win as well)

Other than my one friend and myself, though, I don't see many avid Terran players. But then again, I am just starting, and don't know all that many people.

This was either a team game or your opponent screwed up royally. Replay?

Well, it was a test game against a computer to try out the new map I created. Since I knew the map, I managed to fly my Barracks, Engineering Bay, Command Center, and Factory over to a nearby island that had minerals when a bunch of Zerglings raided my base and broke through my defenses (yeah, they were crap at the time). I just picked up where I left off and built a bunch of missile turrets right off the bat for defense. It was a close call, though, and obviously flying your buildings is going to have a much lesser success rate against other human players. But hey, it still worked against the computer.

And no, I didn't save the replay.

The only use I've had for flying buildings is to fly a command center to another island on a island map in the early stages of a game.

The only way you can fly away when your base is being destroyed and still win is if you can manage to kill all of his nexii and he doesn't have enough cash to build another.

Or a surprise drop with a factory building.
That is, u place the building, pump out a few units and go harassing the folk. Not used very often, tough. ;)

if you have some bases and begin to get another one, when suddenly huge amount of zerglings belong to other player passed by... than you can fly away.
btw, you can use it as a detector too, for example, if you wanna be sure that an underground surprise is waiting you near minerals than you can fly one building, and check if it can land there, if you see red spots than irradiate a wraith and fly it there :)

My personal goal is to be equally good at all races, which is why I usually play Random.
Most people seem to choose Protoss though, no doubt thinking they're most powerful. And sure, looking at the individual units this might seem the case. But I think Blizzard have done a really great job balancing the races. Any race can beat any race. It's all about how good and flexible the players are. True, protoss first unit (zealot) is the strongest one. It's also the most expensive, and i think it takes longest to build. You get 2 marines for the same price, but buildtime with one barrack is longer. You get 4 zerglings for the same price, and they build simultaneously (assuming you have 2 larvas at the same time).
So the only time protoss has the true advantage is when doing a very quick rush. And since marines have longer range, with some microing, this can be overcome. And late in the game all races have units to counter eachother.

I just think it's sad to see 75% of all players switch to protoss just before the game starts. Usually they tend to be real losers who go for cannon rush, because they think it's the ultimate weapon. And when the probe and pylon are killed, you find that they have absolutely nothing in their base except a pylon and a forge.

This cannot be stressed enoough: I hate idiots.
