I thought it would be a cool idea to have a unit that digs underground and moves underground as well. I don't know if it should be able to attack undergound or not. Mabye for the Terran they have some machine that digs underground, moves sends some shockwave outwards and disables mechanical units or damages surrounding untis or buildings. For the Zerg, a unit that burrows and moves to it's target and explodes, damaging the buildings and units around it with toxic chemicals and makes a hole in the ground. (long sentence:) ). Post your thoughts on moving underground units or (buildings?).

Hmm, it sounds like an ok idea, but it'd have pretty much the same implications as a cloaked unit. Maybe if it was an ability that was unique to only a certain unit, (maybe it could just be a lurker upgrade).

Ofcourse this moving underground ability should be limited to terrains where it is possible only. Not on Installation maps for example. That would make absolutely no sense. Same for burrowing by the way, I always wondered how the Zerg were able to dig a hole in steel and how they managed not to fall in outer space. That is something I liked to see changed in StarCraft 2.

I think that the moving underground unit is good, but unbalanced. A moving underground unit means you would literally have to have detectors everywhere. Perhaps what they could do for this is either make it related to energy like cloaking ability (ie. 50 energy to start underground tunnelling +1/1 second), or perhaps they can still be attacked while moving because the ground would shift.

Either way the burrowing on it's own would be too unbalanced unless there is some new units for other races to detect them, but that's getting into a different thread.

Nydus canals and sunken colonys move underground...in a way.
