I need help!

I need help... I'm playing Diablo 1 single player, and I'm fighting the Butcher as a warrior. I have him on the other side of a door, so he can't hurt me, and I can fire my bow at him, but my bow is slowly breaking down, and nothing seems to be happening. Am I doing the right thing? Is it OK if I go to Tristrim to get a new bow? HELP!!!!!!

and yes it is alright if you go to town, make a tp to save yourself the walk
