WoW actually runs at a reasonably low framerate and really doesn't require a highend computer to run. Blizzard hasn't released any base needed computer specs yet, but I have an idea what you'll need.

I'm currently running a p4 1.6 ghz, 512 DDR RAM, an ATI Radeon 9200 128 megs and a cable internet connection. At medium settings I was hitting about 15 FPS with no real visible choppiness or lag. I reduced the settings to lowest and I was grabbing ~25-30 FPS, again with no real visible choppiness or lag. I doubt you'd be able to pull of any less RAM or a slow CPU speed, but I know you can run the game with a lower-end videocard (I forget what my friend is using, but it's a wee bit lower speed than mine).

Really the only experiences you'll feel any real lag//choppiness are the areas where there are a large number of people and the choppiness is only present for a small amount of time. Areas such as Stormwind and the Undercity always cause troubles when first entering. My only fear would be I would feel choppiness in the larger raids (which I probably will), so I'll probably be getting an upgrade in RAM and perhaps a slight videocard upgrade to cope with that.

However, as far as completing quests in groups of 5 as you do throughout the majority of the game goes, WoW is very lenient on system specs :).

Yeah, WOW isn't like Doom 3.

These are the minimum specifications for the beta test.
The World of Warcraft beta test has the following requirements:

- Your computer will need a 56K or higher modem with an Internet connection.
- You must have a valid e-mail address.

Windows® System/OS:

- 800 Mhz or higher CPU.
- 256 Megabytes or more of RAM.
- GeForce 2 graphics card or better.
- 3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
- DirectX® 9.0 or above.

Mac® System/OS:

- 1.0 GHz or higher, G4 or G5 processor.
- 512 Megabytes RAM or higher. DDR RAM recommended.
- ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 64 MB VRAM or more.
- 3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
- MacOS X 10.3 ("Panther") or better.

So the real game will ask for something similar to this, maybe exactly the same.
