I might be getting internet for my new computer so i was thinking of making a (possibly) 24/7 server that would be password protected. I was just wondering if anyone else thought this was a good idea and if anyone would play on it, what the server name should be, if you would join and so forth

We could use it for our CS Game Nights :D

Have you got a second computer? If so, will you play on your new computer, or your other one? This means that you could probably set up one of the computers as a dedicated server (faster net). How fast is your internet speed?

As for the name, I don't mind, and if people played on it, then sure, I would definitely join it. You will need to set up a decent map cycle with about 30 minute rotations. (Be sure to include cs_mice_final, dd1 and 2 :) )

Make it 24/7 Assault :D. Really though, you could call it the Warboards CS Server, if you wanted to :). I'd certainly use it, and it would get use during the CS game nights :).

Yes, this would be my second computer. I probably will play on my new computer cuz it might be faster (that i know of) Yes, i will make it a dedicated server but im not quite sure how to use them. Im not sure what my internet speed will be but it will either be Dial up or DSL.

Don't know how well a dial up server is going to be....but it can't hurt to try.

I think it'd be an awesome idea. A good way to try out some fun mods as well if you're up to it ^_^.

Having dial-up would kill me... having to join a dial-up server from the other side of the world would give me some godly ping of about 1000 :p
I don't think that you will have problems with the dedicated server... it's just that I have a few questions. Would you be able to leave your second computer running 24/7? Also, if your computer crashed, would the IP still be the same?

EDIT: After reading Radlin's post, I just thought of something: could you enable a mod such as Admin mod, so you can turn people into chickens/ change gravity/ traction etc? Not essential, but very fun.

If you're going to set up a dedicated server, here are the MUSTS:

At least 1 Ghz or more of proccesor speed.

At least 512 mb of RAM.

A high speed connection (if you have dial-up, thanks, but no thanks).

Knowlage of the HLDS and CSDS commands and structure (www.planethalflife.com/server).

If you've got all this, then I'd be happy to walk you through setting up a server.

By when do you think you will get the server up?
